The temperatures I am seeing make me cringe. Low to high 80's? WTF?  This is early march. I though we were going to get mid 60's.  Global warming is real!
Me too, I was planning on 60's in the desert and possible freezing in Idy and at the top of Noble. It's gonna feel like 100 in those canyons with no air moving.

I'm afraid that the desert will feel pretty much like last year, which was not easy. 60s would have been nice..... But at least there should be less sand on the new route. I have 5 bottles and a 2 l bladder on the bike.

A few more race reports from other people, although Josh Spice and Jill Homer had more suffering than fun. I think we have all the same suffering, but the key to survive is going at your own pace. I always think of this as randonneuring: Challenge yourself on the course, don't worry about what others do. In particular, I don't even try to keep up with the "neutral" rollout of previous years (which frankly seems more an uphill sprint).

Josh just posted his, cute title too, and a very vivid description of his state of mind.  Most of us can relate to it, it was a pizza oven ride, but this year is going to be about the same despite being a month earlier.

The start is earlier this yr, it will be right a 40 deg F.

So we get to freeze just a bit longer , then bake at lower elevation and walk in some sand, ha-can hardly wait

but at least the forecast does not call for rain or snow........

Turned out that we had rain and snow in Idyllwild during the pre-race meeting! So a chilly start in a few hours.

My race report wasn't all suffering narrative, was it? I remember enjoying the beauty and variability of the route. But I was in strangely poor physical condition that spring, plus desert mountain biking is a big weakness of mine and Stagecoach 400 helped me finally come to terms with that.

Anyway, I dropped in to check on updates about this year's event. Hope it's going well for everyone!

I'm a way from civilization. Cannot check the blue dots. Any updates as of how the race is going?

Here is my race report: http://teamkaker.com/stagecoach-400-2014/

It includes pics of a number of racers.

Great to see some familiar faces and meet new people,
