I'm saying it here, I'm in for 2012. Making the trip from northern NY.
I'll be raising money for a great friend who can't ride anymore, if anyone wants to help? check out bellwethercraftsmen.com
See you all in Banff!!!

Drop it!

I know, I KNOOOWWWW!

I'm really excited about the possibility of competing again this year. I can't stop dreaming about the endless dirt...

The only hurdle is that I have a breast cancer research gig this summer. The plus side, it's only for ten weeks and I have a 14 week summer before medical school year two starts. I just need to work it out with my program director to see if I can get those four weeks in the middle of the summer.

Happy New Year to all TDR starters for 2012. Looks like we have already 12 people ready to roll on June 8th. How many more? :-)

Happy trails

I know of 4 just from Tucson, AZ....I think there will be at least 100 people in Banff this year, so you don't have to worry about the numbers of people. Better to focus on the mileage and making sure you are on the start list by signing up before it is too late  Smiley

I sent my LOI to the Tour Divide site. There isn't a 2012 starter list yet.

I think there will 100 also. You in Chad?

Nope, bikepacking in Guatemala this year Smiley I am hoping to do AZT 300 and CTR for more races this year.

Everything has fallen into place.  I'm in for a Banff start.  I can't wait to get rolling.

Yay Phil!  I'll be rooting for you.  I know of the demons about which you speak, and I was originally tempted for 2012 also, but i don't think it's going to work out well with my school schedule.  2013 is looking more likely for me.  Good luck with your prep and training, i know you're going to kill it!

If there are 100+ people trying to do the TD, I imagine we will see some type of regulation this year for the TD, like either a cutoff of entrants or some time rule that will eliminate back of the packers. The GDMBR used to have cutoff times and I would imagine that it is time to have something similar for the TD.

Thoughts?

This is a touchy topic. IMHO, a random lottery to split the start group into two or three smaller groups with a staggered start so we are below the "critical number" (whatever that is) that parks canada sees as a threshold for Organized events? Is this fair and impartial? It has been discussed elsewhere on this site without a clear solution per se.

My 2 cents.

BTW, had ML retired from organizing this event? Is there someone new at the helm?

75 is the magic number for our grassroots events in Arizona, that is the FS's number.

I've been wondering about that too Erik, I'd guess that sometime soon we'll find out.

Dave, the start list should be posted at the TDR website at some point. If not I guess we're on our own. My flight is already booked so I'm in regardless :-)

Misunderstanding perhaps, I'm not worried about the event not happening. It happened last year despite all the hurdles, and numbers. It demanded considerable effort from ML (and possibly support crew (Scott M etc??)  due to the reroutes stacked upon reroutes. An official start date has been announced on the website after all....
