Can anyone help a rookie out? Section 8 goes by Copper but it isn't obvious where the quick access to a store is. Any tips? The CT guide book makes me think its 1.6 miles after crossing 91 with a store or two hiding in villas. Seems kinda vague.

When you ride the big downhill into copper, there is a gas station off the trail near the highway and a restaurant I guess near the resort. Best bet is refuel at the gas station, make a call in and get going up Searle and Kokomo. Don't waste to much time here! You can plan on getting another good meal in Leadville!

If you are in Copper midday/afternoon/evening, when riding through the ski area, you can detour 1/8 mile down to Endo's Bar and Grill for a huge, greasy pile of nachos. Not sure of the hours there, but I don't think they're open for breakfast. Maybe jump on the bungee trampoline thing while you're at it...
The Copper Gas station is not open 24 hours. Something like 7am - 9pm, and 9am-5pm for the Quiznos were their hours last year.
Don't forget, the CT doesn't follow the pavement! The trail stays in the woods for a mile or so before crossing Hwy 91. Nice camp spots in the trees by the creek there, BTW.

In BV there are two really good, fast, greasy food joints. If you head into BV as you are going to cross the road over to Cottonwood Pass (the main road perpendicular to Main St) at the light you can take a right and find a place just on your right that has a walk up counter for burgers, burritos, shakes, etc.., think it is called Pancho's. If you go to the left there is Kay's Dairy Delight (i believe) but they both can get busy as they are on the main drag for go through traffic. On Main towards the river there is another greasy food place on the right if going towards the river and that place is possibly called Dinky's....look for tables in front. In Leadville, not too sure but the Main Street coffee shop on the left (big surprise...can't remember that name either) serves a mean cup of java and really good chocolate croissants. Hope this helps!

This morning (Aug 3rd) I just saw Ethan Passant and a few minutes later saw Jesse Jakomait under warm sunny skies on Leadville's main street. There was slow soaking rain last night and both looked incredibly well considering what they have just come through. Way to go! Ethan got his bike rinsed off at the bike shop and Jesse bought some neoprene socks at Sawatch backcountry. I just happened to be downtown and CT racers are easy to recognize!  Lee |
