Howdy bikepacking dorks!
I'm looking to get on the AZT 300, The Colorado Trail or The Oregon Timber Trail this fall and wanted to see if anybody might be interested in joining in? I know there are a lot of particulars in terms of bikepacking and I feel that talking in person and riding together is probably the best way to see if there is potential.
Who am I? In the non-existential sense I'm a 43 year old male who has been riding for 20 years and bikepacking for 6 or 7. I also like to rock climb and have done a few big walls which are sort of like bikepacking. Lots of hard work interspersed with amazing views.
My bikepacking experience has been fairly singletrack heavy with a few gravel adventures thrown in as well. Here are some highlights...
-Colorado Trail from Denver to Salida - 8-9 days of riding with at least a week of zeros hanging out in a few of the trail towns. -Tahoe Rim Trail with a few deviations to ride other trails. We were probably out for 6 or 7 days with a zero or two. -Monumental Loop - can't remember how many days we were out. -Old Cascades Crest lollipop with North and South Crescent Mountain - 100% singletrack - 40 miles - 13,000' of up (and down!) - 3 days. -250 mile mixed surface adventure on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington - 7 days or so.
For the fall trip I'm looking to really enjoy the entire experience, get 8 hours of sleep a night and savor the beauty of moving through an amazing landscape. I'm looking to ride around 25 - 40 miles of singletrack a day and maybe a little more while on roads.
My perceived strengths are technical riding ability, calm demeanor when shit hits the fan and I don't take myself or the whole experience to serious. My perceived weaknesses are: navigation and wrapping my head around drinking out of cattle tanks.
I live in Oregon and spend most of the summer riding around the PNW, so if you're in the area or looking for someone to ride with get in touch.
Happy trails, Matt 206-919-9670
