I've been considering adding a forum or two...

Ideas I've been tossing around:

Bike forum - discussions about bike specific stuff -- what bikes are good for or specific to bikepacking.  Also any component choices that make sense for bikepackers.

Classifieds - buy/sell bikepacking stuff.  I'm open to opinions here -- would you like to see/use this on the site?  It'd be free and if it ever got out of hand (not likely any time in the near future) it might have to be shut down or moderated or something.  But it might be useful for folks to hit a more targeted audience.

Any other ideas for sub forums?  Thanks.

I think both of those would be pretty helpful. Cool

Regional trail forums as the trail list grows.  No need for it yet.

How about a sub forum on multipacking?  It has already been touched on with the thread on packrafting.  Combo pedal-paddle-pedestrian trips.

Field repair tips and tricks.  How to wrench on the trail when you don't have a shop full of tools and spare parts -- only your mini multi-tool.

Tightly moderate any forum on general discussion.  No need to let it degenerate into the usual heated political yell-fest.  There are plenty of other forums that meet that need.  Keep this one bike related.

I agree.  When I suggested general discussion,  I'm thinking bikepacking related info that doesn't fit into an already established forum.

Right - definitely don't need another random chat / political flame fest area.

Thanks for all the ideas and votes, everyone.  I think I'll add at least a winter and classifieds forum.

I would be embarrassed to reveal how many internet forums I've frequented over the past several years... I, too, would stand 100% behind a forum policy that strictly forbids political talk or any even remotely insulting or offensive discussions.

It's really easy for those discussions to take on a life of their own and create a whole bunch of ill will, while the perpetrators of the discussion cry "free speech" and "censorship" when they're reprimanded or their threads closed.

So far, this isn't an issue at all... the people at BP.net seem like a really great bunch.  But this type of adventuring is gaining steam and this forum will definitely grow.

I personally would like to see a sub-forum devoted to Food exclusively.

Any thoughts towards a DIY/homebrew equipment forum?

Could be a good idea.  I'll keep it in mind.  In the meantime, some folks have used the "personal setups" area to show some DIY stuff.  Plenty of room for comments there, too.

I'd love to see a bike forum / bike setup forum.  I'm seeing lots of different bikes used, and it would be valuable to be able to discuss the reasoning behind peoples choices.

I second both these, Especially the first. I might need to find a trip partner here soon, unless my wishy-washy friends stop being wishy-washy  Wink

Also, maybe a forum for multi-mode travel. It seems enough people here are doing it, and the info is kinda scattered across the site. Not that i can't use the "search"  thumbsup

I agree with both of those as well. Casey, are you looking for anyone to ride with in Montana? I'm hoping to ride some of the Divide Route this summer - hopefully with a friend but if he bails or if he doesn't it'd be nice to have some company out there.  Just shoot me a PM.
Thanks
