Going to run this as a race May 25, 2018 and would love to have others along for the ride.
Almo, Idaho to Beaver Dam, Arizona - 450 miles, 17k climbing. (Fast route, could definitely be done in 2 days, 3-4 comfortably)
Grassroots event, no fees, self-supported. Official time is based on timestamped receipts from the Tracy General Store in Almo and Beaver Dam Station in Beaver Dam.

Couple buddies and I have been pre-riding the route for the past couple years. Great small towns along the route, couple ghost towns, a couple more almost ghost towns, and lots of wildlife. Almost always see wild horses.

Water logistics are key to this ride. (Think desert scene from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly... "If you save your breath I feel a man like you can manage it...")

I'd rather do a loop like this:

Just makes logistics so much easier.
But I'm game.

Maps are going to be posted and sent out to interested riders in the next couple weeks.
The route logistics are definitely part of the challenge, but I hear you loops are easier. Riding from nowhere to nowhere isn't for everyone Smiley

Having said that we've worked with St. George Express a local bus service and they'll shuttle bikes to Burley (near the start) and from Mesquite (near the end) to Salt Lake or Vegas. So there are options.

Pretty much a dirt road/gravel ride?

Yes, dirt and gravel roads.
Old mining, railroad service, sheepherder roads. Coming through Gold Hill, Utah we also use some of the old Pony Express / Wells Fargo Stage route as well.

First run of WestX starts tomorrow morning.
Full write-up after we finish up, pre race dinner tonight, make sure the bikes are sorted, hit the trail at 8am.
Rain showers in Almo this afternoon, but the winds are light. Hopefully will keep the dust down tomorrow.
