Hey all! I am tentatively planning to drive my wife to a conference in St Louis in late July and was thinking it might be a good opportunity for a short bikepacking trip. I've been looking at the options and I could do an out-and-back on the Katy Trail, but loops are always more fun. Does anyone know of any ideas for a short bikepacking trip somewhere near St Louis? Just looking for what options might be available.

I've heard of great MTBing SW of St. Louis in the Mark Twain forest. Not sure how far away that is, but I'd research that area.

Thanks! Looks to be about 90 miles SW of St Louis. That could work - I will see what I can find for routes.

I just remembered what caught my attention in that area originally. Look up the Berryman Trail, or BT Epic MTB race. That should get you some good info. You might be able to find a race promoter and get their opinion via email on a loop.

How much time do you have to dedicate to riding? About a year and a half ago I rode the entire Katy. My son lived in St. Louis at the time. He dropped me off at the western terminus in Clinton MO and I rode back to his place. Could have your wife do the same.

Here is my blog about that ride. http://maunabiker.com/index.php/category/the-katy-trail/
