Hi, everyone. My friend and I are planning a trip on the CT
in early June. We are concerned about running in to
a ton of snow, however. Anyone done the CT during June?
Any advice? Thanks,

Daniel Boyes

Yes, lots of snow.  July would even be push'n it.  Best bet...if we get a warm Spring and early Summer....is to tackle this beast in August.  Late July might be good...might.

Shoots. Well, I wasn't expecting those responses, but better now that later!
Thanks for your advice, both of you. I sort of was banking on
only running into snow at really high elevation, but it sounds
like its not even worth it to ride it in June... I'll have to try to
change my plans with my amigo. Peace

If you are not looking for a solid thru-ride, you can ride a lot of really great pieces of it in June.  The later in June the better.  These pieces include just about any segment that stays below 11k.  Check out your databook.  Segments 1,2,3 are primo in June.  Kenosha to Breck (seg 6) will be snowy on the Breck side of Georgia pass, but probably passable by end of June.  Segments 7 and 8 are out for sure.  The Collegiate peaks area segments open to bikes will all be pretty good, aside from, perhaps, the high stuff on Segment 15 (Monarch Crest trail)  Segments 22 to the end, better wait until mid-July for those to melt out.

Higher than average snowpack in the SW, but normal to low in the Front Range, making 2010 similar to 2005.  I attempted the CT in 2005 starting at the end of June, and was shutdown in the places described above.

Cool. Thanks for the specifics. We might try to do that.
It certainly seems like a better idea that trying
to barge our way through snow and getting
frustrated. Thanks again,

Daniel
