I need to get away for a week.  On this trip I probably won't do any bikepacking, just ride all day from a central location out...maybe an overnighter.  I need some advice from the locals, which town should I stay in and which trails would you ride if you had nothing to do for five or so days.  No set date at this point...but it will be within the next month or so. 

Any advice would be much appreciated...

I'd think about Crested Butte.  Trails in all directions, and good overnighter options too.

How long do you want to ride each day?  Durango has some amazing trails, including simple overnighter options, but if you're looking for epic-sized day rides every day without any repeated trails it may be a little difficult.

Crested Butte would be hard to beat.  Do you have experience riding at higher elevation?  The rule of thumb is one day adjusting for each 1,000 feet.  I used to live at 7,500 and I would run at 10,000.  I could go back and forth to sea level with out a problem.  Now that I live at close to sea level it takes a few days to adjust.  Just something to keep in mind when you only have a short time.
