Hi all,

I was looking at some 29ers the other day and came across a nice BMC.
http://www.evanscycles.com/products/bmc/teamelite-te29-xo-29er-2012-mountain-bike-ec031123#features

It seems a nice bike and seems to have good reviews, but I really don't understand the down tube cable routing.

Has anyone got any experience of this cable routing both in terms of how it behaves when coated in mud, and how it interacts with a frame bag?

Cheers

Andy

Both mechs are routed under the DT? My Fargo is like that. Maddening in mud and slop and even more maddening when it starts to freeze.

When I get some bike $$ I need to move to Gore cables on this. Work really well on my road rig which see lots of dirt.

Yeah, both mechs are routed that way.
I guess cables with outers could be run the whole way, but would have to drill out the cable guides.
"Maddening in mud" is definitely not whats needed for riding in Scotland.........

If you really like the bike, switch to the Gore cables. They have an inner sheath that covers the full cable when not in the main housing.
Good stuff...

I rate the Gore Professional cable kits highly - spendy but fully sealed and work exceptionally well when installed correctly. Very slick feel at the lever when shifting.

There are supplementary cable guides you can get - such as the ones from Problem Solvers:

This will allow you to run full housing. Just remember to run SRAM inner cables with SRAM outer casing, or Shimano with Shimano as the inners and outers are different diameters between the brands, as well as the genuine lube for both.

OK, official shop mechanics hat off, you should run matched branded cables together (due to sizing differences) but will still work if you mix and match, YMMV. Slick Honey or similar thin silicone lubes work well too.

Witha frame bag, just run the straps under the exposed cable inners.
