Moved my question over to this Q and A forum...

Anybody tried a 12-speed Shimano shifter [M9100/8100/7100] with SRAM drivetrain yet? Cassette spacing is slightly different between the two drivetrains, but I've watched a YouTube video showing that it works. But we all know how YouTube can gap reality...
About ready to transition away from a 2X drivetrain, but really don't want to invest in an XD or Micro Spline driver [aka new rear wheel for the latter] at this time. Easiest way for me to do this is to use a SRAM 12-spd NX [or Suntour] cassette, which fits the current Shimano Hyperglide freehub and SRAM GX/NX chain and rear derailleur. From past experience, I really prefer Shimano shifters over SRAM's...
Which makes me also wonder if a 12-spd Shimano shifter and RD [9100/8100/7100 series] works with a SRAM 12-spd cassette...?

@ghbucky01,

Thanks, but didn't see anything specific to ShmEagle compatibility. I've ordered a M8100 12-spd shifter to see if it works on my wife's new Ripley, with a Eagle NX drivetrain. I'll report back.
However, did see a link to the fabricator in the UK who makes some really cool brackets and adapters, JTek Engineering
http://www.jtekengineering.com/
Maybe JTek will make a Shiftmate for this application if needed.
Lots of Shiftmate adapters to choose from. Maybe SRAM Eagle to Shimano 12 is the not needed, aka a Shiftmate Y...[?] I'll soon find out.

From the Sheldon Brown link:

Quote
Indexed rear-shifting systems from Shimano, SRAM, Campagnolo and SunTour have different amounts of

  • cable travel per click,
  • derailer movement for a given amount of cable travel, and
  • sprocket-to-sprocket spacing.

I took that to mean that you will have to have some kind of adapter/translator to get them to play together.

I'd be interested to know what you find out.
