I know this isn't the most on topic thread but I could use some help and didn't know where else to post.  Prior to starting the Colorado Trail (in mid July; I'm touring it) I will be staying with my Dad at the Tiger Run RV resort in a Chalet with him.  I have a travel trailer that my wife, kid, and I stay in during the summer time (we're teachers).  Since we won't be staying in the camper for the week I need to find a place to store it.  Tiger Run is like $70 a day.  I could technically keep it at the campground on the peninsula (that is where we spend a lot of our time) but I'd rather not take a spot from someone that was going to actually use it.

Does anybody know someone or a place that I could store it for a week?  I'd be willing to drive up to an hour to drop it off.  Either post here or email me at sherpaxc at g mail dot com

Thanks so very much!

I'd bet you could stash it at the far east lot at copper mountain ski resort. if you take I-70 west from frisco, take the copper exit and go south, the next left after the light is a big dirt parking lot that isn't used much, but there is a trail head for the CT there. I think it'd be pretty safe there, but you might loosen the lug nuts/park it where it's in plain view from the highway just to be safe.

Yeah, I just don't feel comfortable doing that.  Thanks for the info though.  I guess I could try and call around and see if there are any storage lots and see if I could pay for a week of storage.  Anyone know of any?

Different town, different circumstances.  But when moving to my new home town, I drove the camper cross-country and then stayed at a Hampton Inn for two night.  Asked the manager if I could leave the truck and camper in the back of their lot while I flew back to close on the old house and get the family. They had no problem since I had already spent money with them.  Maybe that is worth the cost of a night at a local hotel nearby.

I'm not sure about the Copper idea either - they could be real persnicky.

I kinda like the motel idea, and there's a lot of somewhat independent motels to choose from. One that may fit the bill is the Alpine Inn, in Frisco, CO. It's right next to I-70 and has a fairly large parking lot. Who knows?

Another idea would be some place in Leadville, that's a little off the beaten path (but, hey near the CT!). You could potentially just leave it at a National Forest campsite for < 2 weeks. No guarantees on security, though.

What dates are you looking at, specifically? Any interest in putting it down somewhere, and having a babysitter look over it, while they're riding the trails/climbing the mountains in and around Leadville? I'll be out of my current housing situation at the end of June, and starting a big bike project in the end of July, but don't now what I'm doing in between.

July is the high season in the high country, but I bet you could snag a spot around the Mt. Elbert/Mt. Massive TH's. Check up on it, while you roll on through!

Thanks all.  I got put in touch with someone in the Leadville area that is a family friend.  They have land there (they also store their camper/boat there with a cabin) and are not only going to let me keep it there, but are going to feed me dinner too!  I've pulled over that pass before and it's an easy one.  I'm also going to use them as a resupply during my Colorado Trail trip.  Winner, winner chicken dinner!

Glad you got it sorted out.

For future reference, in the past I've stopped by the local police station, explained my plan, and asked if there was a good place to park my vehicle. They let me park in the back of their lot, and I gave them my phone # just in case. Worked out well, and they weren't left wondering why an apparently abandoned, out-of-state vehicle suddenly appeared in town.
