Holy blog updates Batman!

So I decided to blog my whole Divide day by day while I was working on my photos

DSC00849-Edit.jpg by Greg.May, on Flickr

Long term plan is to go back to this - edit it - then combine it into a short publication. That will be a month or so off.

All of these were written in one sitting, with no editing to the words after I'd typed them (puke draft), so it can feel a bit raw in placed. But that was what I wanted, not a glossy happy shiny BS write up about how I found myself. The truth is far more interesting.

Enjoy.

Chris, will hopefully get something together for you over the weekend. If you're looking for anyone to help with copy editing give me a shout.

If you're only riding 10 hours a day then you're not racing the TD!!! Seriously, you'll be looking at 14+ most days in the saddle.

I obviously wasn't racing then... 20days 16hrs  FYI - average saddle time <12 hrs per day. With a rather large mechanical that killed about 36hrs or active fast moving time.

Sometimes it pays to just ride faster for less time.

What? No metric version for us Euro riders....the shame.

Wink

Nice work!

Just a quick update on the 2016 route from Matt Lee: "I am awaiting final details on one small deviation in Butte, otherwise, identical to 2015. I am awaiting final scouting from a Butte local. Track should be final by Wednesday."

Where'd you get the update from?

Looks like Dan got there before me... Highland Trail Race. Proper riding in big mountains.

Lakeland 200 would be another if you're looking for a one day (maybe more) tough ride in the UK.

UK and ROI riders - check your passport.

This was flagged to me yesterday: http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2016/may/05/britons-flying-to-us-without-biometric-passports-could-be-turned-away

Have checked with the Irish Embassy, and yes, it's going to be an issue as now I need a new passport :/

I haven't tested them so far but for weight reasons you might want to give the brand new Schwalbe EVO tubes a try. They come in at about half the weight of the lightest tubes available so far at app 75g. Can be patched, too, according to the manufacturer. Sounds good to me for a spare solution.

They also cost about a million pounds each.

I think I went through two sets of batteries for the HT450 - around 60hours ride time over 4 days. Again, as above, Lithium batteries

You wouldn't be the only person Tom. I know of a few other 800's that have been turned into bricks.

eTrex - rechargeable batteries - dyno to buffer battery. Has worked fine for quite a while now.

Ride your bike A LOT. That costs nearly nothing yet will make you competitive.
Sometimes no amount of money can buy what you need. Thats why I like ultra endurance bikepacking.

Well said.

Riding over, it's not that far and it'll help settle my body clock for the shift over. I get in on the Tuesday evening.
