Any update from Jill?? She's been showing the camp symbol of over 30 hours near Sparwood. I thought she may be hoping for a last second miracle hitch, but at some point needs to head north.

I read her blog entry (linked in a previous post) and it sounds like she's done.

It looks like Sarah decided to keep racing. The girl has grit. We're rooting for you!

Walter, where are you??

Max, we hated to hear of your mechanical trouble and that you may quit. You've done so well.    icon_salut

If this is already a "dead horse" - please forgive.

We watched last year as Forest Baker was robbed of a higher spot in the top 10 by two riders from a certain land-locked country who were, by many reports, drafting, a clear violation of the rules. It's a tough pill to swallow when a racer has spent many valuable resources of time, energy and money so that he/she can compete at this high level, to not have their true "place" validated.  Those racers that have integrity, a clear moral compass, don't need external government.  Those who don't have integrity, do.  External government requires authority, which the other races don't possess. One rider can't DQ another.  So it seems that if rules are going to be enforced, there has to be someone with the authority and willingness to do so.  Making more rules doesn't change this dynamic. Neither does abandoning them.  Under the current structure, each rider goes into the race knowing that others may not have the strength of character to race with integrity, but that his/her own ending time will reflect everything they brought to, and left out on, the trail.

I hope Katie and Sam's 14 hour silence is Spot-related and not trouble.

I'm really sad about Alex Harris having to drop out.  He's a world-class athlete/adventurer and I sincerely hope his injury won't keep him from leading others on his epic adventures in Africa!!

Angler,

It's so great to put faces to the names.  Thank you for the pics and for serving the racers so well!!  You're making the race relational for so many of us, on and off the trail.

Blessings to you!!

Hey all,

Jarmila Gorman here, safe n sound albeit bummed... I've decided to scratch because I smacked my head pretty hard coming down Sargent and ended up with a mild concussion and whiplash, leaving me unable to be on the bike for more than 2-3 mins at a time. I made it out to Rte 50 to hitch a ride to Salida - and Jim Dirksen picked me up and drove me all the way home!!!

What an adventure. I was sooooo looking forward to the fun sections of the race, after all that brutal pushing. So glad to have been a part of it and wish the remaining active riders the best of luck!!

VERY glad you're OK!!!   thumbsup

One photo under 1000k on top of Georgia Pass.  Anyone know how to reduce the size of photos off my cell phone?

Couple other pics from yesterday.  Thanks, Joe.  I was trying to work off an ipad, but the computer made it much easier.  First pic is of Nate.  The next one is Danny and Joey.  Brady-- yours didn't take!  Looks like these folks are going to finish up today!!

On an iPad or iPhone, if you mail the picture to yourself, it asks you the size you'd like it to have.  You can downsize that way as well.

Got a text from my sister Jarmila Gorman.  She crashed, is walking to the trailhead between Sargents Mesa and Marshall Pass, 2 3/4 miles to rd. 780, hoping to hitch a ride from there to Salida.  Looks like her SPOT is accurate -- she went down a trail to a small road.  So bummed for her but wow, what an effort!  If anyone's in that area, I know there'll be a mountain biker there in a bit, hoping for a ride.  And probably a beer.   She said "mild whiplash" so doesn't sound bad, but....

I hope your sis is OK.  So much admiration for her effort!

Wow, that was (is) awesome!!! Huge congrats to Jefe and Jesse, and to all the other riders out there. Thanks so much for organizing this, Stefan! Inspiring stuff all around -- the photos, the stories, the sense of community, and the shared and solo experiences.

Best,
Owen

And I LOVE the fact that she has a whole bunch of caring eyes watching her blue dot.
This is what I love about this sport.
