Dear comrades,

I got duped on Ebay, payed for a Garmin Edge 800 including a bunch of maps - but no SD and no maps arrived. What maps/ files do you guys run on your GPS, any resources you can share? Thank you so much!

Concerning medical conditions: When I had knee problems, it was almost always linked to a saddle set way too low. When you go up with your saddle, you might encounter problems Achilles for a few rides (also common when pitching up your training drastically), but for that, the classic "step training" (stand on some steps with your tiptoes, push up, hold it, go down below step height, 2x15 repetitions) 3-6 times per day worked wonders on me.

All the best from Germany, Klaus.

P.S.: What SD card size (8GB?) do you run on your Edge?

What would a German Michelin be?. I do not want to upset the French.

Not really having a domestic equivalent, maybe VARTA would be close. However, if you wanna rank "Divide Cuisine" and use German rubber for that, maybe "Continental" would be a good pick. Apparently, Mike Hall used literally the same tire twice:

quote @Normally_Human: "This front tyre has done the race twice now. Think it's time to retire it, maybe make a new belt."

Not a big fan of social/media ec. either, but are those the vital concerns people have when it comes to integrity and the beauty of this race? I am not questioning the "free will", "mental math", "self pacing", "going organic", "personal enjoyment" explanations... but nobody worried about riding 230+mi for several days with literally no sleep?

Jesus, finally they stopped. Where did they stop now, is that "Butt's cabin" ? On Google Earth it looks like there are a couple of cabins, more like a camp ground or something? thx

Here's a link to photo's I took of riders bikes this morning in the YMCA parking lot. I tried to take a bike profile/ front end configuration.
If I missed your bike it's not because I didn't think it was a cool setup. It's a lot of photographs to take in 1/2 hour!

Wow, very nice, thanks a lot. Mike Hall's is one super slick setup. Loved it on his website already. So thoroughly thought through (dyno hub, lots of electronics) yet so tidy and lean. Also a kind of "innovative" front bag solution (no "classic" bar roll), he simply rolls up his complete sleeping system (bivy, sleepy and mattress) and puts it in that modified oversized backpack side bag.

Right now I am looking at Matt's map where bear activity is indicated very nicely.

Is there a similar map or something for cabins, camp grounds, water, resupplies ec.?

thx from Germany 5am ;-)... blue dots in my eyes...
