Another rider/racer looking for a ride to Durango from Denver area.  I have a few extra days and wouldn't mind arriving early to sit by the river and have a beer before the race gets real.  I'm interested in other ideas too like a uhaul for a few folks.

Anyone know if there are cue sheets like for the AZTR for a Durango start?

+1 for the 1x10.

I run a 32T WolfTooth narrow-wide direct mount ring with Shimano XT 11-36+OneUp42 and switched out the 15t cog for the 16t that now comes standard.  I have used it all over Montana for 100mile races and loaded bike packing and never wished I had 2x.

Selling my FS bike packing rig (Frame only plus goodies)

2012 Salsa Spearfish 1, Anodized black/red, Fox RP2 shock, Sz Large (20")

Includes Cane Creek 40 ZS headset for tapered fork and Wheels Mfg PF30 BB (angular contact bearings, easy to service or replace)

Bonus! FSA Carbon seatpost (head separated from the post, nothing a little super glue can't fix! no problems since, just not the most beautiful component)

Add on a SRAM XO BB30 carbon crank for $175

I rode this hard but serviced it very regularly.  The shock has been retrofitted to allow user servicing and charging of the IFP.  Freshly rebuilt prior to sale, zero ride hours!

Might have missed it somewhere but what is the best way to get from Tucson to the start for those of us who are flying from far away places? Happy to pay for gas and dinner for anyone who feels like giving me a ride!

I see I'm a little late to the party but I live in Butte and have a fat bike and have been looking at routes to Helena also.  Would like to hear how it went for you, or maybe plan another trip if you are interested.

I have been using an iPhone 5 with the Pocket Earth App.  As I learn more about it I like it better and better.  The GPS is pretty accurate and the battery lasts if you remember to put it in airplane mode when not using it.  I have the LifeProof case for it that has held up very well.  They make a bike mount that I am sure would work well with some zip ties or string etc to back it up just like people do with their GPS normally.

Can't beat Darn Tough socks.  Price is similar or slightly higher than other brands but they have a lifetime warranty.  If you can wear them out you get a new pair.  No catch, check their website.  Awesome warm comfortable soft socks.  Lots of options.  Originally found them when shopping for ski socks, now they are the only socks I will wear.

I am using simple nylon zippers for mock ups and using water resistant #5 or #8 zippers for finished products. Internet searches and rocky woods.com will show you lots of options.  I have found nylon zippers with large teeth to be the most durable so far and some are even made with the pull tab reversed to prevent mud and dirt from interfering.
16  Forums / DIY / Make Your Own Gear (MYOG) / Gas Tank Bag w/ Top of tube cable routing? on: February 12, 2013, 08:00:22 PM
I have been thinking about design problems and potential solutions for a gas tank style bag and it occurred to me that the cable routing on my bike runs along the top of the top-tube.  It seems to me that the bag would rub on and possibly affect cable action.  Has anyone come up with a nifty spacer solution or is this a problem that I don't need to worry about?
