61  Forums / Question and Answer / Re: Securing your bike on: January 11, 2013, 09:55:04 AM
i just did something new to secure my bike while market shopping.  i just put my whole bike in the shopping cart and took it inside with me.  i suspect that this works better with bigger markets like walmart or target.

nobody said anything and i got the same funny looks as i was dressed in a dirty race kit and left my helmet on anyways.  actually carrying the bike inside made my looks make more sense to most people.

the cashier did ask if i was in the tour-de-france...lol.  i replied with "yes this year we are all riding mountain bikes"

the BT10(350 lumens) uses four AA, the BT20(750 lumens) uses four CR123A batteries.

so it seems you get one spot device for free(minus tax and shipping) , but you get a rebate visa card that needs to be used in 120 days.  and you also have to sign up and pay for one year of service.

119.00 plus tax and shipping gets you a spot and service.  half price basically.

you should re-read the terms because i just skimmed through.

i have two sets of TI eggbeaters.  one on the cranks and a backup pair in my bag.  if you are going to run them better bring a backup cause right when you need them the most is when they will fall apart.

i run them mostly for the float.

a long time ago i was part of a study done at UCLA.  it was about core body temperature and how to keep it up and loss.  one of the test was sitting in a large fridge room with nothing on but a speedo and a electric warming vest.  then they lowered the temp and measured the body.  they found that keeping the core of the body warm helped a lot to keep the arms and legs warm when not covered.

so my advice is to try and also keep your "body as warm as possible to let the warm blood warm up your feet.  keeping the head covered and warm helps too as we lose a lot of warmth there.

after wearing out my old and heavy tent, bivy, tarp...etc.  and being very poor currently(more biking than working), i replaced everything with tyvek and made a tyvek bivy that has a mat pocket underneath.  holds everything together, breathable and waterproof(so far).  the tarp and bivy has kept me dry on medium down pour.  washing it made it a lot less noisy with is the only drawback.   but being able to custom make everything is a big bonus too.

i run a cheap pair of diadora that i usually train with.  they have palstic soles and ridges that have lasted quite long.

i race shorter races with DMT carbon ultra light, but they would not last long walking in.
