Wife and I are planning a BP trip on our tandem mtb and it may be a few days between water sources and may not be able to setup caches. Terrain would be flat to moderate climbs. This will be done at temps of mid 30s low and upper 70s high. What is the average water use per day for food, drink, etc? I know this would only be a guesstimate since everybody is different.
Wife and I are going to BP together on our new tandem. I'm not new to BP but this will be her first. She hikes and backpacks a lot. Looking forward to a new adventure together. Bags are being measured and made.
I did my first trip a couple weeks ago. I am going to reassess my gear and eating. First off, I have changed from a GT hardtail steel frame to stepping up to a Salsa Spearfish. I am changing my sleeping set up. Probably better bag and inflatable pad and no tent. Gas tank for snacks. I didn't eat enough on day one as well as that caused hydration issues. Day two I ate more while riding and that helped a lot. I have to try to eat about 300 calories an hour and pack a bladder in a frame bag. Contemplating types of food and maybe leave the stove out. Working on better core strength. When you decide to ride the AZT300 in Spring give me a shout.
