Anybody up for an ITT effort before it gets too overgrown?

Jay Cable finished first in approx. 1 day and 19 hours in quite "humid" conditions!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Stay tuned for more accurate and official results.  I'll post them here once Paul and Zach finish the race.  They have quite a ways to go but it looks like they'll finish easily within the 4 day limit.  They're strong dudes and they're probably just procrastinating from going back to work...  or perhaps walking their bikes because of a mechanical?  Who cares, they're both very respectable reasons.

The roster http://kenai250.wordpress.com/2013-roster/ for the Kenai 250 has been updated.  We also posted cue cards (thanks Sharon!).

I received quite a number of questions about rules.  I'll keep it simple:  Self-supported, no shared gear, no outside help, obey the law.  Cellphones okay for emergency calls and music while in bivy.  You can use restaurants, stores, bike shop, hotel, camps, etc, just no pre-arrangement please.

Now, let's start the sun dance, the fresh snow we got today isn't helping!

Hey Sharon,  I sometimes wish my wife wouldn't allow me to go on these torturous events with you. Don't get me wrong, I like your company, but perhaps we can watch a movie next time?  At least let's do some training rides for the next one.  Just winging it like this was pretty brutal.  Cheers.

Oh the loop dream....I love Scott, always going for the loop!

I love the idea of the race, hope to make it up there one of these years.

We're looking at dropping the Crescent Lake out & back.  That would bring the total distance closer to 250 miles and make the route more loop-like.  Other than that there's not much we can do given the extremely limited road system in Alaska.

Is there anyway to make it a more 'pure' loop?  I know I have a higher standard for GPX aesthetics that most people, but a big loop or a single cherry-stemmed loop makes it seem like you are going somewhere as opposed to wandering around.  My 2c, anyway.

Hey Scott,  I understand your concept of "pure loop" and it is something I've been tossing around in my head as well.  The track is preliminary as I'm still looking for ways to drop the Crescent Lake (short out & back).  Unfortunately there are sections that are off-limits for bikes.  IMO, we have maximized the riding on singletrack and we're definitely going somewhere:  Hope - Cooper Landing - Seward - Moose Pass - Hope.  But I do appreciate the feedback... we have time and I'll keep working!

What a fun ride!  Thanks to all the riders out there and of course thanks Chad and Scott for putting this together!

Here are my times:
Stage   Start   Finish    Time
1.         7:35   13:45    6:10
2.         6:32   17:04   10:32
3.         7:18   17:23   10:05
4.         9:10   15:56    6:46
TOTAL  =                   33:23

Lynda.  Wow - I'm excited that you and other "serious" riders from L48 are getting interested.  There's no easy, straightforward answer as to what the best way to protect yourself from a bear is.  I will dedicate a page on our website to bear safety in the next couple of months.  We'll also talk about it in a pre-ride meeting.  Guns are useless unless they're big and you know how to use them.  You're also much more likely to get killed by a car or hypothermia, than a bear.  Carrying bear spray is highly recommended.  No snakes nor other nasty poisonous critters in AK.

Date change uncool.  3 people traveling from Alaska need to change vacation schedule, flight reservation, car reservation and hotel reservation.

I'm excited to announce an exciting new bikepacking event:  The Kenai Peninsula 250 Loop

Check the link above for more details. Photo teasers and map will be posted soon, so stay tuned.  The initial interest seems to be pretty high, but I'm realistic and I know that not everybody can afford the time off and tickets to Alaska, so we're planning this WAY in advance, so you have no excuses...

The route is finalized and soon we'll start putting together cue sheets and GPX files.  The total length of the loop will be in excess of 250 miles, pretty darn hard miles, but include over 200 miles of sweet singletrack!  This event is for experienced backcountry bikepackers only, and there's always the 50/50 chance of "sub-optimal" weather here in the Chugach mountains!  BUT, if you are like me and like nature, great views, singletrack and don't mind sharing the trail with some wildlife (no snakes in Alaska though), then THIS IS FOR YOU!  I think I should make carrying a photo camera mandatory  Wink

Oh well, just bought my ticket from Alaska to Awesomeness once again, so I guess you can count me in.  Not sure whether I'll chill at night and do the stage race or if I press on and do an ITT through-race this year for a change.  headbang
