The rider found injured on CR 23 outside of Rawlins is Andreas Fassbender, a NOBO touring from Germany.  He broke his right hip.  Andreas is in Wyoming Medical Cdenter, Casper, 307 577 7201, room 6 33
If anyone on this forum lives out that way it would be great to see if you can help him. He's alone in this country.

I am available to help if need be, I tried giving a call but no answer. Rawlins can be somewhat tough logistically. I'm in Steamboat Springs. He or friends/relatives can call me at 970.291.9546

When and where do you think the "Golden Spike" will happen this year?

golden icicle?
23  Forums / Ultra Racing / Re: Tour Divide race discussion on: June 20, 2014, 01:17:32 PM
ya this is probably the hardest start ever in the sense of sustained exposure but that's part of the equation
I made lots of typical mistakes that cost time but am truly frustrated with my ongoing struggle with saddle sores
Once the bleeding starts it's simply to painful to fight thru for a so so mid pack finish position
If i ever solve this issue and work allows I could be back
I truly squandered my fitness level this time around- gurr

Yes, looks like full on winter, not just winter waning.
Solve the "issue" and salvage fitness for the CTR?

1_So is the new I-15 Butte alternate the official route, or an "option"?
2_Yikes. Airlifts and forest service "lifts"? Anybody have any pics of Richmond Peak?
3_Sorry Marshall.

Lots of hard riding (hill intervals) across Kentucky and Virginia. Beautiful country, however, I also don't envy riding through Kentucky on a Friday and Saturday night.

If anyone still needs an aero bar holding contraption (though one should have this figured out by now), see classifieds for stem aero bar holder contraption.
29  Forums / Classifieds / MOOTS/Eriksen Titanium stem/aero bar divide racing thingy on: April 17, 2014, 08:58:48 AM
Anybody out there speed touring or divide racing, I have for sale a one off aero bar holder/stem combo. It's a 90mm stem length with about 1 cm of rise. It fits the 31,8 bar diameter. The aero bar holder tube is also of the 31.8 flavor. If you want it, make me an offer, $300.-/min. It's a nifty little thing and doesn't weigh much. The little hammer nutrition pill tubes slide into both ends....bonus feature.

Just finished a northbound trip in 10 days thanks to the weather. Three half days due to storms.  Unable to do 22/23 due to fires and no 7 thanks to weather. The storms were coming in early afternoon- 1 to 2 pm with a mix of hail and rain with lots of lightening going all night long to 5 am. Made for some greased conditions. Difficult even to HAB with that much wetness.

Only saw 3 other thrubikers. I'll try to get up some pics up to get you guys psyched for kennebec, Indian ridge and sargents. FYI kennebec and Indian ridge and blackhawk in our first day made for about 5.5 hours of HAB! Rolling took another hour but was surprisingly rideable. Sargents however. .you know, was balanced by fooses.

Ooh yeah- lots of all female groups of thruhikers near collegiates was a bonus. They should be near silverton for the ctr nono

HAB? (Hot Asian Babe? Harvard Alumni Bulletin? Hard Ass Biking?)

+ 1 for the CTR, no SPOT

Also, looking for any creative/convoluted rideshare options from Fort Collins to Durango for myself and my girlfriend (also doing the race). Ideally, we would leave around 8am on Saturday 7/20 to get there in time to relax before the race. We're also willing to leave Friday night if that works better for you.

Option 1: Drive my 5sp manual Subaru Forester. We have room for you AND your designated driver to get my car back to Fort Collins. Your designated driver can rally it all over SW Colorado for up to two weeks as long as they bring it back to Fort Collins.

Option 2: Are you already driving your vehicle to Durango? We'll pay for ALL your gas to Durango and buy you some good beer (to be consumed after the drive) if you let us tag along.

Option 3: Are you, or someone you love, in Durango but want to be in Fort Collins? Drive my car back to Fort Collins.

I am leaving from Steamboat Springs Friday noonish. Maybe a possibility.

By 10am today, the storms were already blowing up big over the La Platas... everyone better bring their best rain gear!  If the weather pattern we've had here the last week continues, it's gonna be a wet CTR.  How's the monsoon stacking up in the rest of the state?

Bring it on - we sure need it.

Oh man...was on 10 mile yesterday at 5....(perfect I know), got hammered by one of the biggest monsoon squalls I have ever experienced. Lets just say it was a good test of kit.....

Record or no record he will be a TD legend for a long time to come.

TD "HALL" of fame

I was already impressed with his round the world effort, but his TD effort is my kind of context. Rock star.
The question I have: He mentioned he had "unfinished business with the route" prior to this years race.
Will this effort squelch that fire, or will he be back.....

And in regards to JP, he is a competitor but I am sure he wouldn't wish this on Mike.

of course. my note prior was in jest.

Brutal. Looks like Mike Hall wasn't able to sweet-talk the Forest folks into getting a hall pass.

"hall pass" ....pun intended?

I imagine JP is the only one somewhat relieved at this news....

For those still wanting to ITT southbound (and can't because of Canadian conditions), and want a time to race against/compare, there is still the option of racing the US portion, as the somewhat defunct (Great Divide Race) has always done. That time is out there and documented, and is another record ripe for the pickin'.

I've been following Eric's triple crown progress. Dang the guy can't catch a break. A broken seat clamp!!!

Buy a hose clamp somewhere? Maybe?
