Nice meeting you Barry, you were riding real strong after I saw you by Twin Lakes, that nap must have felt good. Cheers, Neil

Roughly 100 miles in, Stages Stop Saloon and a tiny store connected. Google Review "Best bar on the Tarryall." Smiley

I would way rather use carbon rims; stiff, light, efficient, strong.

Northbound riders 4 minutes before takeoff!
Nice seeing those NOBO's, thanks! Ron and Michael should be in Colorado by tonight/tomorrow, That will be a great feeling for them. NM is a rugged stretch, Colorado should be a nice change of pace. Weather looks great for them too.

Noticed this, the the heck is going on.
I have been reading all the stuff about a Guy Martin.  I do know it is not Greg May, as photo to be posted soon will verify.  HOWEVER.... there was an interesting man in Ovando yesterday who left around 6 pm.  Longish brown hair, beard, average height, lanky, wearing dark glasses and a straw hat [the hat is what got my attention] riding a yellow bike.  Not on trackleaders.  Didn't get a name. Didn't stick around long and didn't get anything to eat.
Just throwing more fodder into the fire.  :-)
Carry on.
p.s.  just talked to the neighbors whose dogs he was talking to and she said definite English accents.  So there ya go.  Start the rumors!

I wonder why he decided not to set up a tracker? He obviously is going fast enough if he started on Friday. Sorry If I missed anything earlier in the thread , I am just catching up with divide News.

Good Luck everyone, super jealous, but stoked for all of you. Ride like the wind. Oh, also....Anyone know anything about the ladies race this year, I have not heard much regarding the woman's field.

Cheers, NB

Is that where the "start" location is? May have a few days to squeak it in after memorial day.

The water faucet at Westwater Ranger station is not available due to construction.  Of course, you can treat the river for your needs.

I was there about a month ago. They had a huge tank of Non-Potable water. Wonder if they still have it? They also had this set up this past fall.

Long shot, but did any one find a lezyne multi tool or an iPod shuffle?
Another long shot, did anyone find a Spot Gen 3 south of Mormon Lake?

Its snowing/hailing in Tusayan right now, so riders in the area (john schilling, sara jensen) might have some interesting stories to tell when its over.  Im not sure what the weather is like right now at the North Rim.

Oh my, no bueno. Looks like their best bet is to drop into the canyon, looks to be much warmer down there. I was actually really surprised how warm it was down there. Did not know inversion plays no effect.

Then Neil had to go and finish right at sunset, beating the full moon!

Congratulations Neil, that was some speed that the world has not yet seen.

There's a decent little bike shop at the visitor's center -- enough that Joe got his wheel trued and some spare spokes.

Thanks Scott, and everyone throwing good vibes my way. It was a fun ride, painful, but I really tried to enjoy myself, and I especially did on the first 300 miles this year. Then it got interesting with lack of knowledge after that, lucky I never really "messed up" too bad. I can't believe how difficult that last section of the ditch hike was, I did re arrange my pack setup a dozen times or so, I finally found a good compromise of weight on my shoulders vs. hips, but no matter what, I think it hurts, who's idea was that Wink

Sorry about the full moon deal, I really tried hard to finish before sunset, I really did not want to ride at night again. thanks so much for getting my spot deal all fixed, did anyone actually find mine? If not, I may head back one of these days as I was thrown off route a few times in that section. I think it's actually off the trail somewhere.

It looks like Joe finished, I wonder how he set up hiS Mountainsmith Strapplets, he did not have any hip belt. When we spoke the day before the race.

Cheers, Neil Beltchenko

One reason I don't enjoy supermarkets, and tend to avoid them at all costs.

Ian, Thanks, I did not even see that one. Pretty close to route, so that will do!

Cheers,

Neil

Am I struggling to find something open 24 hours ON route in Flagstaff, am I missing something obvious? Anyone have any info on that gas station on Route 66 before you take a right turn on Switzer Canyon Dr. I think it's a Carters Fuel. Thanks!

Temperatures are also looking cool, which is a huge bonus. If moisture holds off, this could be perfect riding conditions, at leas for the first few days.

Also, What is everyone doing as far as the Gold Canyon option? I kinda wish it was a yes or no, that being said I'm leaning towards the road. Thoughts?

Hey Friends, I'm looking for a ride from Sierra Vista to the border on Friday morning, anyone heading that way or know of options. Cheers, Neil

What kind of rain gear do people typically bring? I'm accustomed to desert weather, so I can understand a few storms rolling in here and there. But last weekend over the Stagecoach it rained heavily for maybe 5 hours straight, so I got me thinking a bit more about spring outwear selections. Obviously we're too far out for predictions, just curious what others brought/used/didn't use in years past.
Hey Jason, I was thinking about this. I'll likely look at the forecast a week out and decide on gear. Typically I will bring a 3/4 rain paints that I cut. That way I can pull them over my shoes without taking them off, they also allow the legs to breath which is nice. I'll also carry a really lightweight rain jacket. In past years for the 300, I never carried rain gear, mainly because the weather was so nice. Just a down jacket.
