Following up on this response from a few weeks ago.  Where exactly is Marshall Pass Spring?  I can't seem to locate it in the CT guidebook. There is mention of some water 1/4 mile down Silver Creek Trail.  Is that the spring you are referring to?

Took this pic on 2015 CTR. Its about a 1" pipe and water runs along side road against the hill then drains across the road. Perfect for refilling and its hard to miss going S->N. Oh and the mosquitoes on Marshall Pass are slightly larger than a small bird Smiley

Paul Hamilton's spot batteries die? He has been at 114 for over 4 hours now.
Got to be hot on the La Garita Wilderness detour! Hope there is some cloud cover.

Yes I'm betting Neil will pass all the group start racers today. That could be quite demoralizing if your in the lead group and think your doing good. Hopefully they keep their spirits high and push on!

wakey wakey BP you have company! Looks like his spot woke up just as JB passed.

Ahh must be the lack of oxygen that I missed it.  icon_scratch

Neil is picking them off one by one. It will be interesting to see how many he can pass.

So I was zooming in on 10 mile and noticed a charlift? Kensho Superchair? It's top is near the CT. I don't remember seeing this the few times I have crossed the peak. Can you just not see it from the trail? I have never skied Breck.

FWIW I did the same as Yogi the Barry in 2015 and hiked way less then 2013. 21x36 on my 29er (6 day finisher)

FWIW Apple was not on any biking section of the trail last year. There was an angel just outside of Princeton Hot Springs that probably helped a few that were 'counting' on Apple. Pack for the entire route and race the race as it was designed. Good luck all and maybe I'll see you again next year as I have not been on the bike enough this year.

Is Apple out there this year?

I noticed Jefe publicly committed yesterday.... so let me see here.... Jefe, Jesse, Kurt, Jay, Matt, Aaron, and probably some other freaks I'm unaware of.... dang, they are gonna put a hurtin' on each other. I can't wait to watch this thing!

Somebody get the race thread up!

Good luck to everyone!
Ya I was hoping some names would start popping up on trackleaders since there doesn't appear to be any ITTs  but they prob want to keep it a mystery until race day.
Anyone riding a fat bike?
Anyone wearing a wetsuit?

Here is a link to a GPX file I made from Toby's and modified it with the start from Velorution Cycles to the trail head and also included the Leadville bypass. Use at your own risk Smiley
If you use http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/ the added tracks are in red

Yeah, but you miss out on the awesome Southwestern burritos at City on the Hill Coffee and a chance to raise our caffeine level. The uber-fast won't take the time to stop, but the counter ordering is fast and they are friendly...
Don't stop at the Golden Burro! They are not biker friendly and have a huge sign up that says "no bike shoes because it destroys our carpet." It's in the center of town in Leadville.

I don't own that GPS but the flags are not actually part of the track. They are waypoints. Check your menus for stored waypoints and see if they are saved in your GPS. There should be a setting that allows you to see the stored waypoints on the map.

Our Tennessee guys missed a turn and are heading down the Engineer trail.  I made the same mistake 2 years ago and realized about 100 yards later. Its an easy mistake with the CT going downhill and making a 180 degree turn and the Engineer trail goes straight ahead.

edit -
actually looks like they are headed down a dirt road. I think the engineer trail is closer to Silverton. Hope everything is ok.

Hello everyone!

I am looking forward to starting the CTR from Denver, my estimated departure date is August 1st, this is due to some summer classes that will not let me leave any sooner.
Hopefully I will still get to see and chat with some of you along the way!

Here's my question... I will be using a Garmin Oregon 600 GPS and would like to download the supplied .gpx file from the CTR website under the topofusion map to fallow as well as view on my computer before I depart. I am using a Mac, are there any Mac users here that can suggest the most detailed, (hopefully a free download) to view this file?

-Thank you all!

I use Garmin Basecamp http://www.garmin.com/en-US/shop/downloads/basecamp
I also have the topo maps add on and I can't remember if the basic version includes the topo view. You can upload tracks, routes, waypoints, etc., directly to your GPS including the topo maps if you have them installed.

Both Gen 3 and Trace have LEDs for power and GPS. Both units will have the power LED flash red on low battery. The trace has a feature that lets it send a message for low battery because its primary use is to prevent theft (put on a boat or object that doesn't move for months. Once moved the trace starts tracking.) Both units work same for tracking just the Gen 3 has the SOS button.

Stefan - tracking page showing a 5am start time under the map. May want to change that to 4am.
