Finally got around to throwing some pictures together from my trip
Coconino 250

Wish I hadn't been too tired i.e. lazy to adjust my camera settings for some of them, but still a pretty good summary of the route.

Wow, such an amazing experience that will be remembered not only for the beautiful scenery, but mainly by the incredible people I was able to meet and share the journey with.

Jeremy and Mead...wow! So impressive to throw down for something like this at 12 years old! Thanks for the well wishes and I'll be keeping my eye out for Mead on the national stage in the not too distant future.
Mark, thanks for the beer schlepping and it was nice to roll out with you on day one.
Les and Jill, a true pleasure to ride together for the afternoon and share some most delicious burgers in Munds.
Keith, thanks for the company on the descent to the Verde. There was no way I was able to hang with you on the climb out of the valley though.  Well done.
Martin, the first human I had seen in 5+ hours on day three. Was nice to have some company picking our way down Bill Williams in the dark.
Ray, amazing effort!!!. I would say your description of me was quite accurate. That long, hot climb from the Verde just beat me down and I was not in my happy place. Sorry I wasn't the most talkative or lively roommate.
Lynda, it was great to cross paths with you and finally put a face with the name. Congrats on your impressive effort as well. And yes, I was definitely back in my happy place yesterday.
Finally, the Alaska trio, Michael, Sharon and Dave. Thank you for the "finish line celebration" and for sharing in last night and this morning's feeding frenzy. A trip to your neighborhood is now at the top of my list!

It was an honor to share the experience with all of you!!!

Oh, and of course, a huge THANK YOU to Chad and Scott for making this possible! Please don't take it personally that I was cursing you both out for the "trail" you chose to get up Mingus icon_biggrin

Pics to follow (including the rat in Coyote Spring) when I get home.

My times:
Stage 1: 7:52
Stage 2: 12:29
Stage 3: 13:16
Stage 4: 9:02

Speaking of beer, anyone up for grabbing one Thursday night?

Also re: parking; i'm at the Highland Inn 100 yards from The Place and they said it'd be fine to leave up to three cars here if anyone needs a place to park.

A belated thank you to Chad and Scott for reverting to the original race date and for organizing this event.  REALLY looking forward to it!

For those of you familiar with the route, what is the recommended water carrying capacity assuming seasonal weather conditions?

See you all on the 5th!

I looked at the website http://rockyroad5050.wordpress.com/5-coconino-250-and-350/ when I saw slhappy's post and sure enough, it's showing 10/12 date change.  This is new info within the last couple days.

NOOOOOOO!  Just saw the date change.  I've already got my plane tickets from VT for 10/2 - 10/11 for the original race date of 10/5 BangHead  My race plans for the CTR went to sh!+ three weeks before that race and I transferred my CO tix to AZ.  Damn, maybe a bikepacking race just isn't in the cards for me this year.

WOW Groundshine!  That sounds truly awesome!!!  What are your thoughts for it?  Are you planning to put some sort of "ride/race" together this fall?  Depending on timing, I'd likely be in.  Unfortunately my CTR plans went to sh!# last week after a year of planning.  I've transferred my plane tickets to do the Coconino 250 in early October but other than that???

Ha, I have a feeling that when/if I get through the CTR I'm not going to have much interest in many long, hard efforts this fall either so a tour pace would be fine.

All is well in this area and things are pretty much back to normal after Irene.  What road(s) are you looking at off of 73?  I could likely give you the 411 on most of them.  South Hill Rd. is the key component of the Chittenden/Pittsfield route and it links nicely with the trails around Silver Lake.

And yes, George is LapsNE.

Hey bmike, sorry I missed you that day; would've been fun to chat.  I just plugged along on 100 to 107 to 73 (Brandon Gap) and home on 53 in Forestdale.

For route details, check in with George L.  He should have a gps track of the ride we did a few weeks ago, which is really the best way to go.  There's some crazy steep hike a bike over Bloodroot Mountain but it's manageable.  Unfortunately I don't have any tracks I can send you.  I had my gps in my jersey pocket for that ride and arrived at camp that night to find the screen cracked and the unit was toast.

Feel free to hit me up when you've got a date too.  Late August / September I may be able to give you a tour.

Happy trails.

That would've been me.  Sunday 7/1 I presume?  Rode from my place on Lake Dunmore - Silver Lake - over Bloodroot Mountain (Chittenden) - into Pittsfield for an overnight and a spin around the Green Mtn. Trails.  The hike a bike over the mountain was so miserable on Saturday with 4' high grass and mud that I opted to take the road home.

Other than the hike a bike it was a great ride. Took some great pics; just haven't had a chance to download them yet.

Did a similar route (minus the road) with George L. and Marc S. a few weeks ago as a shakedown ride for our upcoming CTR attempts.

I'm also super interested in the MA - Quebec route/event and would love more details.  Please post up or feel free to email me - jaytvt29 at gmail dot com

Cheers,
Jay

Hey Laps, I'm a VTer too and gearing up for my first attempt at the CTR this year.  Where in VT are you?  Maybe we could get together for some training rides and gear discussions this winter.

Shoot me an email if you're up for it.... jaytvt29 at gmail dot com
