Just what I was looking for.  Will add this start/end section to the lite course.   Thanks

Was thinking of tagging along for a lite version.  How is the ascent up Brianhead.  Anything  technical?  Looks like 2 miles of single track in that inital ascent.

Condition update.
Drove up to Union Pass from Moran today.  There was snow on the FR 515 section (map 2b mile 56-65) with closure signs.   This could definately melt in 3 weeks, weather permitting.  Union Pass only had a few patches of snow that are easily traversed.  No Simoni trekking required.  Everything else looked good.  Was about 55F midday on Union and 77F mid afternoon when I rounded the Wind River near South Pass.

I think you should be able to access them.
Good Luck to all the riders and Go go go David!!!  Maybe you'll be the first to Union this year.

Take a look at www.skidmap.com, brilliant resource!

Local and love it.  Already coming up with some day trips.  Thanks for posting.

Which way to Evanston?  Lost Creek Reservoir area?

The fire last year was bit further northeast, and a little later in the year.  If is in the wilderness it will be hard to contain, as there are not many roads (i.e. fire break lines).  With high water content last year and low content this year, there should be a lot of overtime for the firefighters.  Hopefully it burns itself out and/or gets contained by the time you start.

Condition Update:
Ran into a GS Adventure rider today that says he has run the divide in the last week from AW to Rawlins.  He said all passes were clear with the exception of "one near Como, or Sargeants, might have been Marshall's".  He said there was a construction detour for it, which in the mountains around here usually means spring clean up.
I might venture up to Union and Togwetee, a few days before the start and try an get pictures for all y'all nutballs.  I might personally get nutty in mid August with a Sobo this year.
Best of Health to all the riders this year.

Wanted to see if anyone is having good or bad experiences in doing trans-Mexico bike trips.  Looking at either a Baja run or central mountain pathway.  Most of my experience in the area is on motorcycle, which allows different opportunities.  Concerned about general safety and clean food/water sourcing.  Thanks for any input.

Thanks, I generaly use the Benchmark atlas.  I think I might have a DeLorme, but it might be about 10 years old.  I'll be checking with any BLM/FS offices I can find as well. Thanks again.

Heading down to  Phoenix from SLC for two weeks on monday.  Will be scouting this route to see if this is doable for me this year.  Anyone got a good location to pick up maps to back up my gpx files?  Thanks for any assistance. Will also be scouting water/food resupply (if anyone has that info)  -Robert

Nicely done, and gratz, JayP.  Definitely raising bars.

Love the trippy background music at the beginning of JayP's Breck call.  Reminds me of many long hikes and bikes where I wasn't getting enough water.

JayP is amazing!

Does anyone know if the New Mexico portion of the route is all open now after all the fires?

Santa Fe NF still has closure on FR 27, but exemptions are available.  Don't know what their enforcement is like.

Official website info: http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/sfe/newsroom/2011/20110729OrderNo10358StageIIIRestrictionsLasConchas.pdf
This order is still in effect for clean-up reasons, I believe.

Great Job Craig.  Watching you inspires me for next year.  Look forward to future efforts.

Thanks for the encouragement.  After about a week I could eat and drink normally again.  But the itch to get back out there has come back with a vengeance as well.

Well, I'm out from heat exhaustion.  Some notes on the route for SB'ers.
You can get an exemption for the FR 27 closure in Santa Fe NF,  they prefer a written petition with a letter exemption.  I have the contact info if anyone would like it.  I was able to get this in email form.
There are bridge closure signs for FR 150 in the Gila section.  This has construction equipment in the area, but was clear and passable when I went through.
Had a good time, but the extended ~95F temps got to me and ended up slowing me down too much.  Might have made if I could have cooled off from the exhaustion for a day, but in the Beaverhead area that means no food resupply.  Still had fun for the short time I was out.  The CDT single track section is a lot of fun in the NB direction.  Would like to try this again, but honestly my spinal condition might not allow me in the future.  Have too many things on my bucket list anyway.
Thanks to all who route this course on paper and electronically.  Thanks all to who have ever cut roads, laid gravel, or put shovel to ground, for this course.
Best of wishes to all on the course or with thoughts on it.
Robert Franz

Heading to AW from Phoenix.  Hope to officially start this evening.  Hope to see some of you on the trail.  Good Luck to all the other late starters.

From what I can get from articles, this was a generator failure, while the the secondary was on maintenance.  Canyon Dam and Goat Creek are the spillway emergency outlet.  Flows up from 15-20 cfs to 800-1000 cfs.  Good news is that the operators will be very motivated to fix this as it represents significant cash flow.  Doesn't help those immediately in the area though.  Flows might be lower in early morning, but usually hard to tell on a spillway.
NM update: Carson and Santa Fe NF have lifted travel bans, except FR 27 south of Abiquiu.  FS is doing road evaluation this week, as it stands right now, I'm hearing a few weeks to end of the year closure (hopefully this is only for motor vehicle usage).

I plan on posting here or MTB cast, but only for the use of letting SBounders know of any trail conditions i can fore warn.  Wouldn't mind info from the other direction, but this will be mostly what i can find from an occasional public/bikeshop Internet connection.  Personal info for friends will probably go up on a social webpage.
FYI: Carson NF has lifted their travel ban right now (south of Platoro).  Santa fe NF still has major route closure with Conchas fire @ 90%.  For anyone on route.

I'll wave going the other direction, starting when Conchas fire wraps up.

With the Conchas fire, I might be later as well.  Hmmmm.  I can always take those fall classes later.
