this year i got to my folks about 50 miles short of steamboat on $350

This is a quote from Dave N. in the Breckenridge grocery store the weekend of the Firecracker....

"Sweet, 1,000 calories for 99 cents!!!"  (Animal crackers)

On a related note, I toured for 2 months one summer and budgeted $8 per person per day (my bro and I). Keep in mind we paid for camping/hotels only once and it was $5, so the $8 was really only for food and we certainly were not racing, so ramen, oatmeal, and peanut butter were our standards. If I was to do it again with an emphasis on speed rather than my wallet I would guess $40-$50/day would be a good place to start.

Afterall, I still can't eat ramen...

Anyone know if DH is using shifty bits or going single?

I would guess single, but ya never know, he may have slapped on the 1x9 like CTR?

Either way he should be in good form!

I took around 250 but a few aren't quite pg-13.... icon_biggrin

Take a gander and if you want any feel free.

Has anyone been able to track down the new data book (4th Edition)?  I've had one on order for close to 6 weeks, but it's a no show.  Also, all the outdoor/book stores only seem to have the 3rd edition still.

Count me in.

Should be "interesting" that's for sure.

Dave,

I may be able to help ya out. The plan (as of now) is for my brother to pick me up in Durango and drive me to Denver where my roommate will then pick me up. Assuming I finish within a week or two of you, you're welcome to hitch a ride back.

Just as the title says, Sierra Designs Hurricane Rain Pants, Size Medium.

I've had them on 2 maybe 3 times, and only in the living room. Brand new condition, my tree trunk legs are just too big for the medium size.

$35 + shipping and they're yours.

Scalpel.

The older Scalpels did have an open triangle, but the 08's and up (I think) have gone to a shock mount in front of the seat tube and there's hardy enough room for a bottle in there let alone a frame bag.

If you're looking for a good frame that'll take a beating there's always Surly, Redline, KHS etc.

+1 for the penny stove. Simple, easy to make, reliable, and cheap.

Still don't like Heineken tho.

I use a marmot precip jacket and a chepo pair of Target rain pants hacked into manprees. The marmot jacket is the best jacket I've come across and hasn't let me down in many a downpour. Sure, it doesn't pack super small, but I'd rather be dry. The cheap pants are just the clear plastic variety ($9)... sure they are just plastic but they work and if they get destroyed....oh well.

Hey-O, Andrew Carney here. I'm originally from the corny fields of Iowa, but now reside in Fort Collins. I've been riding/racing bikes through different disciplines for 9 years. It's always been about endurance for me and testing the limits of my legs and mind. I do have some bikepacking experience and touring experience. Nothing super long distance on the dirt, but I did tour cross country on the road with my little brother one summer on a shoestring budget and no real plan...just head east everyday and ride until it gets dark  Grin  Anyway, that's who I am.
