Plesko about to drop down out-of or off-of Union Pass, hopefully he doesn't get too spun out across the GB.  Sure, some climbs here and there, but them's some long straight and flat sections before 'climbing out' into CO.  Keep it spinnin'!

And finally- Chris Plesko, another rider not of this earth! Crush it Chris!
Indeed.  Wicked fast ride so far, for a one-speeder.  Dude is seriously representing those of us in the married-father-of-two-bikepack-racer crowd.  Go Chris!

Congrats everyone on finishing the full meal deal, especially those that duked it out in the end with snow and mud.  Before we celebrate the finish of the currently-in-progrees awesome unicycle traverse of the AZT, as I return from post-ride vaca and assimilate back into my mild-mannered-engineer-by-day persona; I've photo-dumped to the fakebook the few random pics I took during this year's 750 experience. For those interested: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1733709290178262.1073741834.100006176231590&type=1&l=228e82ec20

Perhaps I will put together a blog-post report of sorts this time around, as I continue to process what happened.  For now, I'm still somewhat preoccupied with sleeping and eating.  Oh, and work and family, too.

Crazy to hear about the weather. North Rim was 25 degrees yesterday morning, so I would imagine it would be even colder in that area with the weather moving in?

I was really surprised at how many people I ran into that new about the "race" and the amount of encouragement from people while walking through the ditch. Mike & Mike must have prep talked every person on that trail ahead of me. because by theBtime I got to them, it seemed most people knew why I was there. Even had a small group of people cheering as I went through Phantom Ranch.

Solid ride Jason!  Nicely done. Was thinking of you and hoped to stick around Stateline CG to see you finish.  If we prepped anyone in the ditch, it was by default only cuz it was a Sat and there were tons of peeps in the canyon that day, and I felt like I was answering q's every 5mins. Crazy.

Its snowing/hailing in Tusayan right now, so ruders in the area (john schilling, sara jensen) might have some interesting stories to tell when its over.  Im not sure what the weather is like right now at the North Rim.

Get it Mike Pro! nice work man!

Thanks, Adam!   I feel worked.  Forgot how much the full meal can hurt.  That makes an AZTR-sandwich for me the past 3 years: 750-300-750.

Also, What is everyone doing as far as the Gold Canyon option? I kinda wish it was a yes or no, that being said I'm leaning towards the road. Thoughts?

It's an emphatic YES, as far as I'm concerned.  I'm 100% taking Gold Cyn option.  The hwy shoulder is fast, but sux - the 2 times I've ridden the Hwy shoulder after riding along the powerlines after Queen Valley and surveying the topography and looking at Google maps later, I've always thought "there's got to be a way to cut through the 'countryside' rather than along the road.  How much asphalt are we bypassing with this new option, anyway, 10 to 12 miles?  Plus, the major resupply at Basha's with it's many food options is still in play?  And mythical bikepacking AZT style points awarded?  I'm all in.

Taprider: love the road runner pic!

excuse, someone knows like go to Las Vegas from st George after AZT? thanks

Going from St George to Las Vegas is easy.  There are many airport shuttle businesses in St George, as well as bike shops and hotels.  In 2014, I pedaled and hitch-hiked from AZT finish to St George, by way of Kanab, and found a shuttle company in St George that took me direct to LV airport the next morning.  Or course, you can take your time in Las Vegas and be a tourist and eat buffet... at the Bellagio perhaps?

He's still on pace to maybe go under 9 days and set a SS record, not to mention one of the faster times, period.  Not many have snuck under 9 days.

thumbsup thumbsup  headbang  headbang sub-9.... you got it Cjell.  Heck, even sub-8.5 can be yours for the low-low price of additional discomfort through more effort.  Let's see that dot pop up on the North Rim ...

Color me blind, but I can't seem to find 300 vs 750 filter/layer/category on TL (yet).  If it's there, can anyone point it out?

I also imagine he's destroying some Gold Cyn food options right about now.  I would.

A very good 3d 7hr "300" for Cjell, as an ITT effort.  Boo-yah.   thumbsup

Was hoping he'd go all-in for the new Gold option.  Perhaps he didn't get the intel before his start, though.

TP: Most are also carrying baby wipes to keep everything clean and for a pre sleep wipe down. I'm planning on a small zip lock of baby wipes and another of TP/napkins. As Flinch said, no more than two days worth and top up as I go.

And a 3rd ziplock to pack-it-out.  And don't you dare just "put the TP under a rock" - that's so 1970's.  And especially not baby wipes or wet wipes, that gets packed out along with your TP, wrappers, threads, spent tape, spent bandages, and all your other waste.  And I carry a small bottle of hand-cleansing-gel, as well.

Sorry if this is obvious, but during 2014 when I biked thru the water was off. Ranger saw me rooting around before I found the spigot and was nice enough to give me a liter out of the office. So, is the Pallisades spigot easy to spot?
Its actually at the Mt Bigelow Trailhead right next to the bathrooms. East side of the road just before the Pallisades visitor center.

If last year was any indication, it will be right where a crap-ton of bikepackers will be sleeping on April 16, 2016.

Hey folks, quick question for the veterans. Who actually takes their cleats out when hiking through the ditch? Seems like it would be a pain.
I plan on carrying 1lbs of running shoe for 650 miles instead, as I did 2yrs ago.  I switched shoes on Highline for a couple hours, back then, too.  Not sure it was worth it for that segment, though.  If for some reason, I do decide to wear the x-alps all the way through and leave the running shoes at home, I'll take the cleats out for the ditch.  Unless, at the South Rim when I look at them, they are too worn down to matter, or I'm too tired to care.

What have others used in the past for the ditch hike? Sounds like something with a framed back is nice to give you a bit more structure. I have a Osprey Talon, but its an old one without a framed back. I'm not apposed to rocking a backpack for the entire race, but I really hate weight on my back. What packs have others used?
Osprey Talon22 - with an added internal frame, McGyver-style-on-the-fly just before Tusayan, and it still 'buckled' under the ~40lbs of weight during the carry.  You will probably travel lighter, though Wink.  I still have the pack, and will probably take it again, but will use a different carry system (like those 'strapettes').

OR Outback is not happening this year, or any other year, as far as I know.  The link in the calendar above goes to 'page not found', and there's the info at the end of this thread:
