Salsa elmariachi is pretty much the standard frame. It comes in a bunch of price range from expensive to fairly affordable.  Anything along those lines.

Seriously, dont get hung up on the gear. Anything will do. An old properly functioning mtb and a backpack is all you need. Just get out, after a few trips you'll see what works for you and buy stuff as you need it.

I like it, pretty slick. The only thing I would change, is you still need to velcro it to your seatpost. Would be better if you could just remove the bag just by unclipping it. Nice work!

If it's any consolation I had my bike stolen and got it back (well the frame anyway) a year latter.

1- Around 200$ (better not be made in China!!!)
2- Pretty much same as Toby. Should of course fit my bike, waterproof is paramount, quality of materials, build etc... better not break on the trail.
3- Depends, I like the set up I have now. (Revelate small frame bag, saddle bag and handle bar harness)
4- Carbon instead of alu or plastic would be a very nice touch.
5- Can't really give more advice, current products on the market are really good.
