Looks like Stephen wants to get this done today. He had a quick stop in Silver City and took off and is making great time.

So did Stephen just go down Gold Dust trail off the top of Boreas pass? It kinda looks that way to me, but it might be how the tracker is showing it.

I've been wondering the same. From the original group start, only Jame's Hodges' blue dot is still active on trackleaders.com. But it hasn't been updated in eight days. I assume that he's still out there somewhere, or perhaps I missed an update in this thread?

It'll be fun to see the final placements!

James has a call-in from Silver City yesterday saying he will be finishing up today July 12th.

Or think about funds for Justin because I suspect he will be saddled with a substantial medical bill and probably no insurance. He did his amazing venture on a much tighter budget than most of the rest of us.

Back at home, I uploaded my pics, few people (I didn't see many), mainly the scenery of the ride

Great photos and captions Roland.
Thanks for sharing and congrats,

I see that Jackie Bonn is listed as a scratch, but she was so close. Does anyone know what happened?

Dejay is SS'ing it. Ben has gears, and will kill it on the flats, on the road.  I think Ben will not be able to make it up if both of them stay on the gas and don't sleep until they hit Antelope Wells.

Ben is only 17 miles back so he should be able to catch Dejay on the road if all goes well.

So will Ben overtake Dejay?

Maybe Lance the doper joins in to give it a try next year, like he did the Leadville 100.

Ever since the movie came out, everything about the Tour Divide has changed, for better or for worse, for riders and spectators alike. You can't stop the media from exploiting an event for money.

I was thinking along the above lines. I did Leadville 100 back in the day (97 & 98) no lottery and maximum 500 riders. Now it is a total circus 2000+ riders, news coverage, helicopters flying over head.
Good or bad that's progress - i guess....

This is a photo in the Denver Post today on the fire near Los Alamos. It's taken from the space shuttle. Here's the link with the story: http://www.denverpost.com/nationworld/ci_18381546

Dejay bailing? He is out to 285

Maybe he went for some bonus miles. I sure hope he didn't bail this close. His SPOT hasn't moved in hours.

Congrats to the finishers.

I don't want to hijack the thread again but I just have to share this:    24 copies of the Cordillera sold last night!

We are closing in on $2,000 going directly to Linnaea Blumenthal's 529 college savings plan.

The book is truly worth buying for its own entertainment value but supporting Dave's daughter feels great too.

Eric

Just received my copy in the mail today.

Correct.  He's stayed to the main TDR route from the beginning.
Thanks

Can we start a new award? Specifically I'm thinking of an annual "Justin Simoni Badass of the Year Trophy" That guy is amazing.

So he is NOT taking the re-routes?

Kurt's dad here.  I just spoke to Kurt; he's still a bit north of Abiquiu.  He got a slow start this morning, and Jefe caught him soon after that.  Apparently they have been riding together all day.  Jefe had no idea his SPOT wasn't working, and they laughed at the speculation going on here.  Looks like it may go down to the wire.

Thanks for the update. They will be probably be laughing for hours if not days..

Aidan already got his bike welded/fixed and is opting to ride back on 40 to rejoin at night. truely epic and still might finish ahead of mid-pack.
It's pretty amazing that Aidan was so close to a town where he can get his "Ti bike" welded/fixed. What are the chances?

looks like Jefe is 4 or 5 miles behind Kurt

Hi all,

I'm at a loose end so here are some thoughts from the trail:

My original plan was to go hard early on in the race and stay with or set the pace a bit. That didn't work out as planned since Kurt, Ethan, and Jefe are so outstandingly strong. The pavement reroutes were pretty bad for the SS, too, but Jefe has been showing the way. Nevertheless, I was sleeping less and riding more than in 2010. A tribute to the quality up front that this wasn't enough to be up there.

As I got into the groove and was a bit more ready to put long nights in, we hit rain in Colorado. Josh and I pushed on a bit with wet a bivi an early start to Silverthorne. I was looking forward to bending sleep a little on the run-in with the chance of fairer weather and more of my favourite terrain (mountains!) but aware that others would be doing the same.

Unfortunately, my frame has cracked and I'm on my way back to Steamboat Springs for repair/replacement or maybe just commiseration with Kent Erikson. So, I'm out of the race (in terms of competing for a decent placing), but still looking for the border.

Not least because my house keys are in Silver City Smiley

Aidan - sorry to hear the bad news, that sucks man. You were riding so strong and have been fun tracking. Hope Kent gets you squared away and back on your way.
Good luck,
Woody

I feel like a Tour Divide stalker.  In the last 3 days I've seen/spoke to 4 of the riders just doing my normal routine and all of them are riding well and look happy.

I live in Boulder but this summer I have a place off Boress Pass road and am living up here part-time.   I'm training for the Breck Epic.

On Sunday while I was finishing up my 6 hour ride, heading home and feeling quite worked - Dave Bruno passed me right before the pavement turns to dirt on Boress Pass road.  I had to speed up to keep up with him and we had a nice chat.  Among other things he mentioned his stop at DQ and how great his milk shake tasted.   He was riding strong, looked like he was riding at a really comfortable pace and was very happy and upbeat.

Then I drove to Breck to get a bag of ice for my ice bath and saw Jefe on my way home and chatted with him a bit.  He was looking very comfortable and mighty strong too.

Sunday night we had a storm with a ton of rain and snow - the only "rideable" dirt was Boress Pass road so I went out to get my miles in and ran into Ross going the other direction.   He stopped and said hello and asked me "are you riding for fun??  in these conditions and weather?"(drivetrain eating grit and light snow)   I told him I'm putting in my miles for the BE an he said "that's a really hard race".   I just laughed -are you kidding me?  it's nothing like the tour divide.  He was in great spirits and was riding well.

This morning on my way back from town to get my morning beverage i saw Josh.   I said hello and we spoke briefly.  He was riding very well and seemed extremely motivated.

it's been really cool to see the racers - i am totally amazed that they have been riding for a while and they all looked like they were riding in their comfort zone and they were all moving at a good clip.

good luck to all of them!
cyn

Hey cyn,
Thanks for the info.
On a side note is there any chance Gold Dust trail is ridable in a few days? You know since you up there riding Boreas pass Rd.

Watching the local Denver weather and they are saying lots of snow in the high country. Here's a link for cdot cameras, which are located on the highways, but can still check. The camera in Jefferson (285) is about 5 miles from the Como Depot so I would say Boreas pass got some snow last night and probably still snowing on top.

All the best to the racers,
