Really interesting to think what would have happened had the de facto neutral support of Brush Mtn not been there.

I agree. Everyone would have to keep going to gain Steamboat or backtrack out of Slater Valley.

Oh yes. Group think has to be involved.

Here is an instagram pic from Chris Seistrup for you E. Lobeck. Ha.

Its 2:15 am and without doubt very cold, dark and miserable going over Watershed Divide.  It looks like Sofiane Sehili has lost the trail for almost 2 hours now. It is very rocky there and no doubt snow covered. Tough route finding with the stress of being in below freezing temps and snowfall up there. Steamboat is calling for a low of 33 and 70% snow tonight and they are a good 1500-1800 ft higher than Steamboat right now. Josh kato is inside of 5 miles to take the lead.  I can tell ya that I wouldn't want to be up there right now. Especially wearing lightweight gear.

The Great Mike Hall just hit the finish in AW.

I wonder which Red Meadows Pass will turn out this year. The picturesque 2015 version or its 2014 evil twin..

Or 2010...

Wow. Lael. What an impressive person. Giving it a sprint to the finish but just another day in the life of big rides. notworthy

Someone has to win this thing and Josh sure had the power at the end. But...I had 2 flats in the last 18 miles into AW when I rode. (Just had to throw that in there to stoke the suspense a bit longer)  icon_biggrin

Dang. Josh caught up yesterday but finds himself 30 miles in the hole leaving out of Pie Town. Seems JP was late for an appointment and in a big hurry to get to Pie Town but has backed off a bit now or Neil is just catching him because he is just one fast dude. Lovin some blue dots right now.

No internet for 2 days!!! Just tuning in. Dang, is the TD all downhill this year? Fast riding out there.

Seems that a lot of people can't handle failure, so they cut corners, whine, and demand recognition equal to those who truly put everything on the line. We can choose to either pander to that sentiment, or to recognize that not everyone is above average and deserving of a participatory blue ribbon. Failure isn't a terrible thing, but denying it is.
Where is that "Like" button?

Good detective work Matthew! It will be interesting to hear his story and why he decided to go way up there. It's no doubt that it will be a nasty, cold night without his sleeping kit. Hope that isn't the case but there are some water crossings and dead fall that might deter him from dragging his bike up there. hmm. icon_scratch

He is in the Bechler Region of Yellowstone. (a no no with a bike) Looks like he was following the Pitchstone Plateau trail for a while and then he went bushwacking. I've hiked all over that region and it can be tough going. A lot of down fall trees and brush. It has been raining and cool here all day and I would think it's pretty chilly up there. The Bechler and that trail don't see a lot of people. Definitely bears in there.  I camped close to Grassy Lake in 2010 TD and was a bit uneasy because of it. My guess is he went on a walk about for a while and either lost his direction or knows where he is and just decided to stay for the night. Just hope he is using good bear country technique by hanging his food, ect.

Cheers Lindsay. You started out alone and did it yourself. I admire that. Congrads.

The new route from Basin to Butte seems to be a significant change. If the old road route were in play most folks (even wet and cold) would probably dig deep and knock out the ride into Butte for better lodging, food, Outdoorsman repairs. Now there are eight people staying the night in Basin to avoid the new, slower route at night with weather.

Seems like he took a longer way to get there than needed, meaning he will have to back track a bit more than if he had stayed on the route a little longer and cut over later.  I bet he's pumped to get back on the road bike.
Lets see how the movie handles his detour. I imagine there will be some epicness in the plan. Is epicness a word? ha

hmmm. seems like some fairly slow going in and out of Lima. Mucky-muck? My favorite area......
Yep. It's a brutal year but it is certainly not the first year that riders have been rain and snowed on for multiple days in Montana. You, Eric, should have a monument erected somewhere on Bannack. Maybe shaped like a trail of destroyed bike parts. ha.

Winter Weather watch for the Butte area, he is probably just trying to beat it by a little. I think that 38 and snow was the overnight forecast. Any southern distance that he can get improves the weather by a little.

There is plenty wet, cold weather and snow forecasted south of Butte. He might get some 2010 reminiscent Fleecer Ridge snow tonight. Bannack could be major mud tomorrow. It is raining buckets here in ID/WY area.

No Outdoorsman stop for Jefe. Must be satisfied with his machines seaworthiness.
