I've attached the photo of the geometry drawing used by the frame builder.  It's a bit hard to read, so if you want me to measure anything, just let me know.

I measure the effective top tube to be 23.5 inches.

Clearly I had set the price too high.  If it doesn't sell at $3400, I'll start parting it out.

I will be seeking treatment and hopefully return to this race I love so much.  I seriously thought about getting back on my bike after finding the source of my problem as dying on the Divide would be preferable to anywhere else at this moment.
I hope you’re not saying you are having to choose your place of death.

I've had this bike for a while now and life commitments have not allowed me to use it for it's designed purpose.  I've ridden it around the neighborhood and on a few local gravel roads, but never took even one overnighter.  It's time to let it go to someone who will ride it hard.

This is a custom bikepacking bike designed for off-road touring.  Size is medium-large.  I’m 5’10” with 32” inseam.  See http://www.bantambicycles.com/bloggy-business/2016/1/23/adventurebike-round-two-or-lets-do-it-again for more details about the project.  Video review of the Bantam Adventure Bike here: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRSbA1DoEgM)

I had it built up with Rohloff Disk Speedhub with SP PD-8X Dynamo Hub, custom frame bag and high quality parts.

This is a top-shelf bike designed to withstand the rigors of long-distance off-road cycling.  It’s a turnkey bikepacking solution with all the details already worked out for you.

SOLD

Asking $650 now asking $550

I’m the second owner of this sweet frame, which I’ve used for bikepacking.  Frame was originally built for SS/Rohloff, but I’ve used it geared with the included Paragon dropouts.

I’m 5’9” with 31.5” inseam and it fit me nicely.  Geometry is:
Head angle = 70.5
Seat Angle = 73.5
Front center = 635mm
Stand over = 29.7 inches
Top tube = 23 inches
BB drop = 65mm
Chain stay = 42cm/16.5 inches
wheelbase = 104.7cm/41.2 inches
Fork rake = 45mm

Sale Includes:
Custom steel frame/fork
Chris king headset
Custom Defiant Pack frame bag
Paragon dropouts for mounting derailleur

Structurally, the frame is perfect, but cosmetically it does show some wear.

It's a sloping top tube and I measured stand-over by finding the center of the top tube and measuring down to the ground.  The bike weighs about 30 lbs.  The Rohloff, dynamo hub, wide rims, and fatter tires probably add a bit of weight compared to a build that would have a 1x drive train with traditional 29er wheels/tires.  But then it would be a different bike.  Smiley

Let me know if you want to know more details about the bike.  One neat feature I didn't mention is that the cable housing was made longer to allow space for the handlebar bag.  I always found the cable on my regular mountain bike getting squished and it's really convenient not to have to deal with that.

Yep, missed that from your message.  Standover is about 31.5"

The bike is located in Raleigh, NC.  I just measured effective top tube to be about 23 1/4".  Gearing is 36x16.  If you wanted a different gear ratio, it would be most cost effective to replace the rear cog, which can go smaller or larger.

I started riding the bike after it didn't sell for a while and fell in love.  I'm keeping it now.  I also got the green light from the family to do the TDR in 2019!

This is a custom bikepacking bike designed for off-road touring.  Size is medium-large.  I'm 5'10" with 32" inseam.  See (http://www.bantambicycles.com/bloggy-business/2016/1/23/adventurebike-round-two-or-lets-do-it-again) for more details about the project.  Video review of the Bantam Adventure Bike here: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRSbA1DoEgM)

I had it built up with Rohloff Disk Speedhub with SP PD-8X Dynamo Hub, custom frame bag and top shelf parts.  I took it on three short rides near my house and despite loving the bike, I'm forced to sell for financial reasons.

I've put $5500 into this bike and I'm asking for $4500.  This is a top-shelf bike designed to withstand the rigours of long-distance off-road cycling.  It's a turnkey bikepacking solution with all the details already worked out for you.

Hi Guys,

Bob Kamzelski of bantambicycles.com built this bike for me as part of a batch run.  I put down the deposit, but in the intervening months lost my source of income and consequently am forced to sell.  He just finished the welding and the frame hasn't been painted yet, so you can choose the color.

There are some photos on this blog of builds from the batch run last year:
http://www.bantambicycles.com/bloggy-business/2016/1/23/adventurebike-round-two-or-lets-do-it-again

Here's the actual frame:

You interested in another Caletti frame? Smiley  I have an older 29er mountain frame from John I would trade for the Rohloff.  PM me regardless, as I might be interested in purchasing as well.

Thanks for all that Ron. All the box I have says is Speedhub 500/14 CC DB. It does have a disc.. I know when my mechanic built my Caletti he need some additional stuff to get it to mount in full. The part would not be sent to him until the frame was approved for Rolloff torque as tested by Gates, at Gates in Denver. I surely didn't expect that. The frame passed no problem, part was sent and bike was finished. Not sure if it was the frame being approved for the Rohloff or the Gates drive. In any event, Cylcemonkey only sent the adapter after Gates approved, whatever was their concern.

Thanks again,

Steve

Thanks for the feedback, Josh.  I was sorry to see you crash out of this year's TDR.  I was looking forward to watching the competition.
18  Forums / Ultra Racing / Re: 27.5+ rigid or 29er with Lauf fork for TDR on: September 29, 2016, 07:16:35 PM
Thanks for the responses, guys!

What tire size do you think would be faster from a racing standpoint?  27.5 x 2.8" or 29 x 2.2?

On my tour this summer from Banff to Whitefish, I was wishing for some more voluminous tires at times.  However, racing the whole length you encounter a lot of different terrain and you want a tire size that works for the overall trail, while still maintaining speed.

Thanks
19  Forums / Ultra Racing / 27.5+ rigid or 29er with Lauf fork for TDR on: September 16, 2016, 09:15:00 AM
Greetings,

This summer I toured from Banff to Whitefish on the GDMBR.  I had a great time and decided to go for the race in 2018.

I rode a rigid steel 29er with steel fork and 2.2" tires.  I had numbing of the hands towards the end of the ride, which I know is normal, but I want to see if I can minimize that for the race. I have dupuytren's contracture in my hands, so I don't want to compound the problem.

From bikepack racing standpoint, I was thinking either a Lauf fork on a 29x2.2 or a rigid fork with 27.5+ tires would help smooth the way.  Also, I'm still debating drop bars vs Jones loop, but I want to focus this discussion on the wheel choice.

Do you think one of these combos is faster than the other?  Any other considerations?

Thanks,
  Norman

Yes, the wheels are 650b, but I wouldn't call it a conversion.  I started with the frame and spec'd the build kit with the help of Frank based on what I wanted for my wife.  Tires are Compass 650B x 48 Switchback Hill, bars are Jones 660 Bend H-Bar, drivetrain GX 1x11.  This bike will do pavement, gravel, and touring equally well.  Cost was just a couple hundred more than the stock X9 build.

Frank ordered all the parts and built it up.  I just picked it up on Saturday and my wife, who isn't what we would call a cyclist, loves it!
