I will be starting on Oct 5th about noon so I'll be chasing tracks all day. I will drive to Flagstaff early Fri morning. Will make for a long Friday. Guess I better pack some lights now. See everybody at camp.
Get a hotel or park somewhere in Flagstaff in the streets. Pretty chilled city for the most part.

Kanabownits and Parissawampit--just checked the map, as I recall we checked these during our trip and there was no water. We did find a tanker for water on Sublime and as luck would have it, some people I knew just happened to be on Rainbow Rim (Locust).
I think you might just have to see what is out there....

thanks for info, will go try them out
BTW, Osprey has an "All Mighty Guarantee" that is a lifetime warranty on all their bags. They stand behind their product, even if that means sending you a new pack. Best bags/packs I have ever used.

Thanks Chad! The plan right now is to show up with a crew of ladies and ride the route with a lot of giggling along the way. Expect some estrogen in camp this year ;-)
Wait, wait, wait...I missed that crew of ladies. Do you want to time trial the weekend before when I am free?! Just to confirm, the Coconino 250 has now been moved back to the original start date of October 5th?
Confirmed. What is the beta for camping in Williams, for the dudes that don't have any available money (or desire) to stay in a hotel. I would still would like to be included in the Stage, and leave from Williams. In the past I continued past Williams and camped on route.
Roll through town and camp on the Forest Service Rd (on route) just outside of town. We might have to talk to you logistically on how we will record your score, ie give us your time that you got there later if you do not see anyone.

Chad,
I've never seen the route. Does it utilize the Kaibab 125 route up to the Rainbow Rim connection? Where does it head to after Rainbow? Your suggested route sounds like it'll have a lot more singletrack and a lot less dirt road riding (which is preferred). Any additional info you could share would be greatly appreciated.
Gracias,
Mark
It takes some dirt roads to get to Sublime Road (great lookout) then heads over to the park (optional pizza and beer) before heading back on AZT. It skips the burn area and stays on the rim by taking the road, and finishes up on some ST to Jacob Lake area. I can send you the GPX and/or can post it up. James F and I did this route a few years ago: http://chadfbrown.blogspot.com/2010/08/kaibab-plateau-day-2.html

Sadly, I am not able to make it this year to see the "estrogen" in camp...Wedding in Montana and GC hike the first two weekends of Oct.

Date change uncool. 3 people traveling from Alaska need to change vacation schedule, flight reservation, car reservation and hotel reservation.
Agreed. I thought it might be early enough to change. I talked with Sharon about the change. The Fat Tire Festival in Phx and TOWM in Showlow are the two mountain bike related events that conflicted with the original date. Thanks for the info for some reason I was thinking it would be warm. Then I looked at the profile of the route. I will have to rethink what to bring.
BTW, last year it snowed on us twice, so the weather could be cold. Being a native-AZ, it was a little unprepared for my sleeping on Day 2 on top of Mingus with the cold weather.

ditto
poo, poo
I can't do the 12th either and had arranged everything for the 5th already.
Chad/Scott why the date change? Curious for the reason.
We had some conflicts here in AZ with some other races. It has always been the first week of October and I thought changing it might help. Turns out it did not help b/c of the out-of-towners. Changed back. Oct 5. Sorry about any confusion. Pleasing the masses in AZ first might not have been the best idea, especially when people are coming from out of town. Also, I love having dates fall on days where there are no other races (with the few amount of races we do have), hence the change. OT:Had a great bikepack trip on the Mogollon Rim this week in case anyone wants to do something new
