Rick Ashton is on track to be the oldest clean TD race finisher ever at 70.5 years old. Please correct me if I am wrong. He just avoided being ghosted as a tourist but he is picking up the pace now and riding at night. He sounds clear and happy. Go Rick!!

We will attempt this in sections on the MTB tandem soon.
But not in year one!

What would you say the average Tour Divide racer spends on the complete trip/ride? Travel, hotels, cabins, camping, and food. Thank you.
Well. Airfare plus  $1.00 per mile is a decent estimate.....so about $2,800.00 plus airfare. You will hear arguments for more and a lot less, but that is a decent start. FOOD adds up quick. Jeff

Do go out and practice before you go. The Garmins have quirks, and you need to discover them before the AZT hits you in the face.

Alright, Can a standard automobile make it down to the border? Continue on M road past Parker Lake and turn down 4781, right? Thanks.

Jeff I think most racers carry tasty water from K-camp spigot to spigot at La Sevilla.
The reason I asked about Duck Tank is I am guessing that at 100 miles I might be ready to camp and I prefer to camp near a water source. But maybe my first night will be near Kentucky Camp (75 miles)  and maybe I will get to La Sevilla.(115 miles) It is hard to know as a rookie. I usually 'overplan' the first 24-48 hours and then just wing it from there. It seems that surviving the first 24 hours is key on this course. Thanks!!

An answer and a question:

A. The Circle K at 11271 E Tanque Verde, Tucson, is open 24 hours. It is about 1.5 miles off route.

Q. Can anyone share first hand info about the Duck Tank near HWY 83 at about 103M? Or, what seems to be a decent water supply between Kentucky Camp and I-10.

Thanks.

Scott, Is the 2014 GPX track likely to be the 2015 track? I will be traveling en-route without topofusion etc. after 3/26. And while I am here, what is your best guess on snow this year? Thanks! Jeffrey

Thanks for the tips! If anyone is feeling particularly generous with non-google info about stores and such on route for this rookie, my email is ajtomassetti@comcast.net  Thanks in advance! Jeff

Can anyone help me identify resupply stops on the 750 that are time sensitive due to store hours? (Smaller places that do not have 24 hr services) This will save me loads of time. Thanks!!

bugs?

I am not a bivy guy. I usually use a small tent with bug netting. I am considering a freestanding tarp/tent instead. How are the bugs on route in April? Can I just use a tarp if the weather is wet? Thanks! Jeff

Jefe's and JayP's rides were amazing! They prevailed over physically stronger & younger competitors through years of practice and willingness to dip deeeeep into the pain cave. A true display of mastery. Their tracks tell doosy of a tale.

I agree.

I think that Rick Ashton finished.

Is this on anyone's radar? http://fatpursuit.blogspot.com/
It is set for March 1st, 2014. Similar to the Arrowhead 135. It is being run by our very own Jay Petervary, so I think the route will be awesome. It is going from Warm River Campground up to West Yellowstone and back. I think it will be fun to attend the very first year.

Hello GST-facturer (drivers, friends, helpers, ...)

as one or the other has already heard of you, I'm going this year, the Tour Divide and therefore can not spend as much time the GST ... the track is on "simmer" and will be ready within the next two weeks, his (Phil hurry up!)!

But there is a point at which it hacks!

Waypoints

I have "a ton" of files (about 50) in which there are also waypoints. This would have to be prepared once.

Who wants to do something to the success / Enhance the GST?
Sure all of you!

Who has time to do this within the next two weeks on your own computer?

The goal is to have a single waypoint file in which all are combined and were dubbed uniform. In a format that all relevant information can be seen at all major GPS devices.

Certainly no work for a total GPS newbie, but also not a freak project.

I am very happy about feedback and thank you once before on behalf of all GST-2013 driver for the help!

Kind regards and "Happy Miles" eating on the weekends

Gunnar

PS: I have @ the sake of simplicity some files together, "carved", so get one or other of the possibly multiple mail! Thanks for understanding!

Speaking of Jay P. Petervary; he and Tracey have put together a TD Race camp in late May. This is a good way for someone to learn a lot about the TD and have a great weekend of training. http://www.fitzgeraldsbicycles.com/about/tour-divide-tune-up-pg289.htm

Thank You. I am in. Now the training and information work begin. I am planning to get a Garmin basemap for Europe and load it with Garmin software. Any other Americans want to venture this with me?

Over here in the US we are using a garmin basemap and topofusion software. What basemap and software should we use for the GST?

Also, I plan to continue from the finish of the GST and bikepack towards Italy. Any route suggestions?

Thanks,

Jeff

Phil and friends,

I am doing a preliminary study to see about doing this in 2013. I am looking for the route (even the 2012 route) shown on something like google earth or map my ride. Any ideas?
