Bumping this now that winter is approaching. Someone?s wanting a new fatbike. This bike is really nice and someone who lives where there is snow or desert sand would love it!

6  Forums / Question and Answer / Re: Fatbike Bikepacking on: October 12, 2020, 03:36:45 PM
I?ve done some. I?ve enjoyed my fatbike, a carbon Salsa Fargo, when packing on more techy single track. They shine on single track and sandy terrain, and of course snow. I don?t like it so much on more varied terrain, that is terrain that switches to less technical dirt road or paved. Too slow rolling when the going gets faster. I?ve also realized as I?ve grown older, my knees are more sensitive to the wider q-factor. Enough so that I?d like to sell my fatbike.

Where are you and what kind of road/trail do you intend to ride?
7  Forums / Question and Answer / Minimum tire width on a 30mm rim? on: September 09, 2020, 06:51:20 PM
I?ve got a Fargo that I?d like to do some road touring + light dirt and gravel roads. The wheels on it are 30mm inner carbon tubeless ready rims. Right now I?m running 2? Shwalbe G-one speeds that are ok for dirt, but don?t roll well on pavement. I?m looking for a more road-ready, narrow tire. The WTB site says I can go down to 42mm tires and was thinking of something like a 42mm Panaracer Gravel King.

Where in N.C. are you? I?ve got a small Fargo and am in Apex if you?re nearby and want to try it out (would consider selling it too). I?m 5?6?-5?7? with a ~ 30? inseam.. One thing to note is the triangle on the Fargo is pretty small so a bigger size does mean more bag space.
9  Forums / Bikepacking / Bike rafting North Carolina? on: May 13, 2020, 08:18:02 AM
With all the rivers and coastal waterways, I?d think there would be some good bikerafting in N.C.

If not on the coast/triad/triangle, then surely are one Asheville. I?ve done some some web searches and not come up with much. Is it potentially the lack of extended trails outside of the western NC mountains? I don?t often see report of people bike rafting on road/gravel bikes...tends to be a fatbike type of thing. Anyone come across any trip reports?

When living in Northern CA, I had often wondered the same thing. Lots of extended trails and waterways, I?d have thought I?d seen more bikerafting info along the N coast of CA and on up through Tahoe.
10  Forums / Question and Answer / Re: Power Meter Pedal - Rechargable or Battery for Multiday / Ultra / Bikepacking on: April 15, 2020, 04:14:24 PM
For endurance and bikepacking type riding, or even mtn biking alone, no I don?t find a power meter useful. This kind of riding for me is more about feel and perceived effort, and the metal hame than it is about the numbers. But I also come from a road racing and training background and power meters are very useful from this perspective. IMO powermeters are not very useful as retrospective data, whic, is unfortunately how most people use them. What o mean by this is that if you?re just curious and looking at the dat after you ride, I don?t think that?s a very good use of a power meter. Where they shine is using them for training plans  where you have training targets, and you use the meter to a plan Power is the only objective measure of effort, whereas hr fluctuates too much based on environment, fatigue, temperature, etc...

Hi DStaley

No problem, I understand. They?ll likely still be here. With the lockdown here, it?d be difficult for me to even get them packed and shipped, so let?s see what happens after a few weeks.

I bought the bike and wheel set together used, so I don?t know the exact mileage, but the wheel set and D5 tires looked like they had never been used and I have never used them. Yes, 15x150 and 12x197 spacing. I?ve moved away from snow, so I definitely don?t have any use for this anymore. Let me know if I can answer anything else!

I?ve ridden all the portions of that CSTR from soda springs to Auburn. That can all be done on dirt road and pavement.

Just take the top portion of the California Sierra Trail Race route, combined with the Tahoe Twirl to get up from Reno.

Someone? How about the wheels alone for $500? The rubber alone is nearly new and worth over $200! Someone’s gotta want some snow/ice wheels.

Size small
Eagle GX 12 speed
Moving away from CA and won’t have any use for my fatbike. Excellent condition, size small. Sram eagle 12sp Gx component, complete extra wheelset with studded 45Nrth tires. One is a DT 370 hubset with HED BAD rims and Jumbo Jim 4.4’s. The other is a DTSwiss S350 hubset with DT Swiss BR710 rims with the 45Nrth Dillinger 5. This bike is in excellent shape and has been fantastic for bikepacking and snow. Id like to get $3000 for the bike and extra wheels shipped. Bags, anything cages and pedals not included. I can give any more details needed or other pictures.
I don’t have a photo host so I never have figured out how to embed pictures here. But here is my cross post on MTB project

See if you can find more information on this route

Or use portions of this, although this doesn’t end on the southern US

Hi Don
I live in Davis and would definitely be interested in some rides. I’ve done a couple overnighted in the north bay and now that the Tahoe region is going to be out of commission for the winter, I’d be down to try out some route out in the coastal areas.
