Thank you so much for the detailed reply!  I'll review all of this with my wife.  I'm sure we will have some follow up questions and I appreciate you being a willing resource.  Like I said, she is from Morgantown and has a general sense of the area, but she wasn't bikepacking when she lived there.

My wife and I are headed to WV this Sept. and looking for a s240 route in the Monongahela National Forest.  We will be camping at Blackwater Falls SP, so something close to that would be idea.

  • We have Salsa Fargos or Fullsus MTB's and are open to gravel ride or singletrack (or mix of both)
  • The further away from people (and dogs) the happier we will be
  • Areas of interest: Seneca Spruce Knob, Cranberry, Canaan Valley
  • Moderately experienced bikepackers, with all the appropriate equipment and expereince to tackle a remote backcountry experience
  • Ideal route length would be 50-100 miles (depending on gravel or singletrack)

If you have any recommendations it would be very much appreciated.  My wife is from Morgantown and very familiar with the area, just not bikepacking routes.

I've seen a handlebar bag system with a frame (or arms) that attach to the handlebars and hold the bag away from the bars a little allowing more room for the cables.  However, an hour worth a googling has yielded zero results.  Does anyone know what I'm talking about and can you point me in the right direction?
