I'm thinking Dave's spot died.  Been in that one spot on the side of the road for many hours.  I'm guessing he's been in and out of Kearny and doin' the Ripsy.

I'm currently tentatively planning on a run at the 300 again.

At this time the 416 fire is much subdued from last week. No giant plumes of smoke above Animas mountain. No smoke filled town each morning. According to local firefighters and flight crews, there are numerous areas of small (campfire sized) fires throughout the previously burned area. They are reopening the San Juan Nation Forest tomorrow except for the CT supposedly due to the Burro fire burning to the west which is not nearly as big at about 3000 acres. Dry weather over the next week will likely rekindle some of the burning, but hopefully monsoons will enter the equation soon.  For more formal info check out Facebook 416 fire or google Inciweb.
I’m hopeful.

With all the excitement going on in Arizona right now, seems like a good time to start a CTR 2018 race discussion.  Have been following the FB discussion, but seems maybe not everyone is on FB, so possibly we start one here as well, then we can obsess twice as much!

Well, AZTR300 number two under my belt.  I thought it would be easier second time around, but this trail has a way of giving you a swift kick in the gonads all along the way and not least of which in the last 20 miles.  Really enjoyed some sections and felt strong most of the race.  Canelos were harsh due to heat.  Oracle ridge is just one swift kick after another and i think I wore out my upper body lifting the bike.  Felt like a bit of a pincushion with three different cactus incidents.  After a really good Gila river run (about 4 hours), I hit the wall going over to PP.  Took about 3 hours longer than it should have.  No matter, I didn't ride off a cliff and rolled into PP at 5:45am with about a 5 hour improvement over last year.  Ran into Adam M there who I had been leapfrogging throughout the race.  He had a super strong finish.  Congratulations Adam!  Saw Mark C there as well an sounds like he had a really good ITT.  Unfortunately my buddy Todd D had to scratch due to lung issues.  Considering the quantity of scratches, I feel fortunate.

Much thanks to Scott M and the ATA volunteers.  This is such a unique event.  Not sure if I'll do it again (memory is too fresh), but it has been a good ride. Good job to all those done and good luck to those still going.

Wondering what the level of safety/hazard leaving a vehicle at picketpost parking lot vs. parking in superior?

Just wondering if there will be a shuttle from Picketpost to start for group start?

Wow!  A big shout out to Scott Morris for "organizing" this event and keeping it going.  Big thanks to Aaron Boatman and Todd Denham for all the great advice.  Enjoyed meeting various other racers on the trail. (Mike Barlow, Barry Ritchey, etc.).  I'm with one of the previous responders with the 'choice words' descriptor for oracle ridge.  Great to finish up at Picket Post with wife, 5 yo son, and cold beer waiting for me.  Wish I had left my Spot on a few more minutes so it would have laid down my last point.  My actual finish time should be 3d 5h instead of 3d 22h.  I went back out to picket to meet Todd Denham when he came in and turned my spot back on at that point to at least have a finish registered time.  Oh well, such is life.
