1  Forums / Trip Planning / Need a partner / Tour de Mont Blanc late August on: August 17, 2017, 06:55:28 AM
Hi, I am planning to do the tour de Mont Blanc clockwise, starting in Martigny. Depending on the weather I am planning to start Aug 27 or Sep 2 and to take it easy (~5d for the whole tour). I plan to go light, sleeping bag + emergency tarp and sleeping in huts and hotels wherever possible. Ping me if you're interested to join.

Hi Renee,

This thread was for last year. Don't make me envy you who has the best still to come!

To my understanding, you will have regular thunderstorms due to monsoon season in September. They might be a bit worse on the Durango end. On the other hand, doing the Denver->Durango direction is way better in terms of "flow" -- You've got more time to adjust to the altitude, it is easier on the Denver end, and the more exposed and more gratifying segments are on the Durango half. So I would probably still start in Denver.

Furthermore, there is no hostel in Durango anymore, and Motels start at 75$ (for a really icky one). We did start late in Denver (~10pm), and just biked about one mile until we found the first rest area where we camped out. In Durango there is a camping place close to the trailhead.

Hi Noam, I'm just back from bikepacking the CT - enjoy. Definitely pack good rain gear! If you have any other question, feel free to ask me.

Hi, just seeing this too late. We are two guys starting tomorrow (July 16) in Denver to Durango. I'll check this forum later for replies.

Bonjour Fred - Dommage - I'll head out the CT with @adventeurs mid-July. I wouldn't need the French lesson, but crazy people are always welcome. Tongue

Any chance to change your time window?

A+,

Stefan.

Opening a new thread to have the date visible for others. See http://www.bikepacking.net/forum/trip-planning-need-a-partner/partner-needed-for-colorado-trail-(early-july)/ for previous discussion.

Please reply here if you want to join us (me, potentially Traoska and adventeurs) for a Colorado Trail tour starting around July 18 (I land in Denver on July 16). Direction is still open, I have a slight preference for Denver-Durango. I've got until Aug 13, so we can take it easy and/or do some other tours in the area after the CT.

Hi Matt, thanks for the update. Seems we're not crossing paths (ha!) then. I want to take more time to enjoy Colorado, and also have planned on an earlier period. Good luck, I'll post an update of my experience here.

Tracie, others: If mid July - mid August is of interest to you, let me know.

Hi Tracie, I haven't gotten a reply from Matt yet. See above for my current plans, and shot me an email if you want to discuss and plan further. I will likely book my flight in the next couple of weeks. Where are you based?

Hi Jeremy,

cool pictures!

Do you happen to know how much snow the region had this year? As said above, I'll start mid-July from Denver, so about three weeks later than you.

Cheers,

Stefan.

Hi Matt - I'm just planning my CT trip too. Vacation is stencilled in for Jul 16 - Aug 14. I'm flying in from Switzerland to Denver, and was planning to do the CT in the other direction, hopefully make it to Durango and then go back to Denver by bus (or other transport if it can be organised). I have done a few multi-week trips through the alps and pyrenees, and am mountain biking for over three years now.

Feel free to contact me PM (eile@mailbox.org) if you are still looking for partners.
