@bon, I still say it?s too early to tell what things will be like in June. Many of my friends and family members on the Navajo Nation have already been vaccinated. They are making a huge effort to get as many people vaccinated as possible as quickly as possible. I agree that if the quarantine is still in effect, the race should be delayed or cancelled, but, at least for the Navajo Nation, I think they are taking good steps now to minimize issues by summer. I don?t know about the rest of the state, hopefully they can get vaccinations ramped up as well. I?m optimistic that we will at least be able to a GDR, if not in June, then in August.

@Pampa, it's too early to know for sure. The border closure has been extended through Feb 21st, but the closure has been extended on a monthly basis for almost a year. The new US Administration has started dialog with Canada on what would be needed to get the border opened again, but you'd have to be a pretty solid optimist to think it will open by June. Here's an article regarding the current discussion: https://www.adirondackdailyenterprise.com/news/local-news/2021/01/north-country-officials-glad-biden-is-planning-for-us-canada-border-opening/I believe most folks are either considering a GDR (US border to border starting in Roosville) or are planning to hold off until later in the year. There is a group planning for a group "Smart" depart on August 20th from Banff (regardless of whether or not the border is open in June). I think there are also folks planning to go Northbound on Jun 11th and hope the border is open by the time they get there. But, ultimately, I think we will be seeing a lot of GDR attempts this year unfortunately...

David Chirnside posted the Men's Master records in the Tour Divide Facebook group: Over 50 record is Brian Alder in 16:10:35 (2016). Fastest over 50 finish was Greg Gleason Gleason in 2018 in 16:02:53 but in 2018 and had mandatory material detours, so no record. Over 60 is Robert Orr 2015, 18:07:41. Over 70 is Hal Russell from 2019 in 28:01:46. So based on that, looks like I would be targeting under 24.6 days to be considered competitive in the Master's over 50 grouping.

The rules on https://tourdivide.org/the_rules say a competitive time is 1.5x the course record. So, with Mike Hall?s sub 14 day record, that means the current men?s completion time to be considered competitive is now about or just under 21 days. I see a lot of people still referencing 25-30 days (myself included) but wouldn?t that now be considered a touring pace? 🤔 What is the current age 55 and older record? Or what is the age for the masters/senior category? Does anyone have a list of all the current records so we can see what the current competitive completion times would be? 🧐😊

I just booked the last piece of my travel puzzle to Banff ... the shuttle between Calgary and Banff. I tried to book it a few months ago, but the Tour Divide discount wasn't working and when I contacted them about it, it hadn't been set up yet. But it's working now! 15% off using discount code "divide".

Hi, I'm new to the forum and the TD. Frankly as a rookie I'm a little confused and thought I should seek advice. To sign up do I just submit the letter of intent to the TD email after the 21st? Just the LOI or is there more? I know I need a Spot tracker. I guess that all gets set up much later? It's 7 months away and I'm already lost. 7 months? More like 5 months 26 days 23 hours! But who's watching the clock? LOL It's an unofficial race, so technically, you can just show up on Jun 14th and ride (or do it at any other time as an individual time trial as long as there isn't too much snow). If you sign up on the link I just posted, you should be notified as things like spot tracking registration get setup. The LOI is not required, but is traditional. They use to be posted on the tourdivide.org for other people to read, but that hasn't happened for quite a few years. You can also just watch this discussion thread, I'm sure people will post information as they receive it. Many people have already booked flights and lodging in Banff or Canmore.

How did you handle the cold/wet weather?
I attempted the ride in 2016 and suffered those first few days. It wasn't necessarily the wet, but the wind that made things hard. Having a wind proof layer saved me. I started with neoprene gloves, but the wind cut right through them. I saw someone with rubber dishwashing gloves and picked up a pair at my first opportunity. Those were a life saver. I used some subway bags as a layer between my shoes and my socks to keep the wind out. I had an ultra-light windproof jacket that I wore over my puffy jacket. If your extremities are warm, your core will stay warmer. The other thing that was super helpful was a neck warmer (like you wear for skiing). Keep that blood between your body and head heated! And like other people have said, don't stop unless it's someplace you know you can stay warm and dry. Keep that body fire burning! I made the mistake of stopping the first day for lunch alongside the trail in a light rain. Huge mistake. Took over an hour to generate that body heat again...
