Oh no!! Brett Stepanik is heading off route.

I believe he scratched due to ongoing issues with his left knee. source: alpine_luddites on Instagram

He is on titanium Fargo. Talked a bit about bike choice in his chat with Ross Burrage on "the hidden athlete" podcast.

Interesting to hear Josh talk about how deep he went during the 2016 race. What was real and what was an illusion? The old lady at night in Navajo area near Peublo Pintado, the crows and badger on his bike.

Completely overlooked that. Thanks!

Any idea why the NoBo riders do not show up on the Trackleaders elevation profile under the map?

Looks like Dom got some rest in Salida but was gone before any shops were open. Good sign that his bike is in decent shape.

A friend is pushing off tomorrow from Denver. Any current conditions/closures he should be aware of?

yeah I wish I could clear wider than 2.1 comfortably.  The Ikons look great but I would have to run 2.0s (no 2.1 available in 27.5).

I rode with Schwalbe ThunderBurt 27.5 x 2.1 TL Snakeskin. Very similar to the high rated Nanos tread pattern. Fast rolling at 480g and decent cornering knobs. No flats but noticeable punctures that sealed in the NM desert. In Steamboat Springs I swapped to Ardent Race 2.2 120tpi EXO 3C TR. Clearance was very tight but I didn't have any more mud from that point. The swap was not due to the tire wearing out, but that's another story.

Post ride impressions were that a 29" would be a better choice, 2.4 is ideal.

I can't believe how Jay is progressing. Amazing. From math perspective - if everybody Brian, Josh and Jay keeps current pace Jay will catch them.

Pretty amazing following his dot while replaying the map from the start. I wonder if putting him behind so many is pushing him harder. A position he is probably not very comfortable in nor use to being in.

I know this thread is dedicated to the event but I'm following along to research touring the route. I plan on touring Den-Dur at a pace for a 12-14 day finish. I will be coming from near sea level with no time to acclimate. I have never ridden the trail before except where the GDMBR overlaps. My kit is fairly light for a bikepacking setup and includes a tarp tent, 32* bag, sleeping pad for shelter. I plan on purchasing a suspension bike but would like to get out there this summer and ride what I have.

Is a 27.5+ with 120mm fork a bad choice? Waiting for the full suspension bike would probably postpone the trip until next summer. Thanks for any insight and good luck to all the races. I'll be watching the dots and enjoying all the updates as they roll in.

I have a question about the NoBo riders. They don't seem to be listed on the leaderboard based on their milage. Is this a trackleader problem or are they not judged the same way as GD SoBo? Saul Britton is now in Atlantic City, 1325 miles into his NoBo ride. Where does this place him in the race? Thanks.

Have you considered the TAR ZLIte Sol? Not an air pad, just closed cell foam but the small size is 51"x20" and only 10 oz. and $35 new.
