Jason, you forgot to mention the possible lifesaving coke and ice cream at the trading post. Soaking our jerseys in the sprinklers was truly brilliant, although I was cursing my wicking jersey 15 minutes later when it was dry. I wish I had the strength to hang with you when Mike put on the hurt through the desolation zone after 89. I am still amazed at how you rode on a fat bike...truly bad ass!

Sorry to hear you had to pull the plug. I'm hoping that third time's a charm for me next year. If you come back, there is food at the trading post just before Harold's Place. There seemed to be alot more down trees on Spruce Trail than there was in October. Come back again next year.

I wish I would have snapped a picture of that huge tree, but I was trying to wrap my head around how to get over it. It was great riding with you Scott. I was in a bad place and your company kept me going. My only regret was not continuing on with you into the night. The good news is I only got 1 more flat.
I hope that some of this years group returns and we add a few to the start list. It was great having people out there to share the experience with. It really is an amazing route and Dave should be applauded for his hard work and creativity.
I would have to say my favorite section was the Crawfard Pass Trail, it was beautiful as the sun was coming up. I know that Grand View at night and Spruce are both brutal, but the section from 89 to Panguitch Lake can suck the life out of you.
I'd be interested to hear what you all think about you favorite or least favorite sections.

Great job to all the finishers. I enjoyed riding with Jason, Mike and Scott. Unfortunately, I'm a dnf. After a torn sidewalk 8 miles in and 3 more flats yesterday I went into survival mode. Slept at panguitch lake and hit the reset button o oh to get another flat this morning. Headed to spruce with a broken pump and no co2 left crossing my fingers. All was well until my track showed 2 options at the top and I chose the wrong one. Still a great experience and I'll be back next year.

Looks like I'm tracking and ready to roll. Most of the packing is done and now I just have to wrap up my work projects before I leave. Good to see a larger turn out this year. Can't wait to see the full route.

I'm in. Looking forward to meeting everyone and a fun ride.

Just waiting on final approval for the time off and I'll be in. Looking forward to the full route this year. I can probably pull off an early start if someone makes coffee.
29  Forums / Question and Answer / Re: Frame Bags - Why did you go w/ that company on: April 25, 2015, 05:19:48 PM
I ended up making my own. If I were to buy, it would be from someone that has 2 kegs in their garage.

Four days should be a nice ride. we did the Lite in October in 3 days as a tour.
You'll have your work cut out for you on a singlespeed. I ride almost all singlespeed, but this is one of those times I throw the 1x10 on my bike. I considered doing it on the ss last year and was going to use the 22.

I'm in for a friday start. I've got a score to settle after last year and got even more psyched about the route after a fall tour of the Dixie Lite with Soft Pedal from Barfly Bags.

I had a great time in what I did get to ride last year before a knee injury forced me out. I did get back in the fall to ride the Dixie Lite route. I plan to be there and should be able to start either day. Count me in!

Thanks for the link Addy, I somehow missed that. I was leaning toward the Patagonia or possibly Marmot due to great quality and the pricing I get on those brands. I'll have to take a closer look at the "uber downs".

I'm about to purchase a new ultralight down jacket. I've always used a standard jacket without a hood, but am considering going with a hoody this time. The Patagonia Ultralight comes in both models. Any thoughts on pros or cons either way? Thanks

Thanks. I'm surprised it hasn't shown up in more bags. They are in just about every other kind of pack made these days. It was one of the easiest parts of the project. I cut mine out of an old pack, but you can order them from Rocky Woods, just pair them with some thin webbing or grosgrain. I sewed it into the map/phone pocket as part of the connection to the zipper (if that makes sense). I'll try to remember to get a picture.

I guess I better give it a go. Mine is for my Mukluk. The process is both fun and frustrating. I learned a lot on the first bag and can't wait for round 2.

I just finished mine too. I did one main pocket on the drive side and a small item pocket on the non drive side. I added a key holder which is nice and very easy if you're doing the pocket anyway. i used nylon instead of mesh since it's easier to work with. I had a little twist at the top front corner, but it came out better than I thought it would. I learned a lot that I'll use for future bags.

I am just getting into making my own bags and 1 design feature that I want to use is the bottle braze on mounting method. I didn't want to do it on my first bag since I was just learning. Maybe I should have just gone for it. since the velcro was one of the tougher parts of the build. My next bag will definitely use this method. I also like the top tube mounting. Does this work well for off road use too? Thanks

I sure want to make it down for this. It will be really tough but I'm in the mood right now to do more bikepacking while I can. I'm sitting by a fire on an over night in park city right now after s great day of riding.
