Ah ok, no worries. Anyone else looking for a framebag of these dimensions?
3  Forums / Classifieds / Re: FS Rogue Panda Framebag, Tallboy 3 Large, $50 on: September 11, 2021, 08:54:40 AM
It's 7" on the seat tube, 19" on the down tube, 9" on top side under shock, then kicks up in angle for ~8" . Does that help? If not, I'll dig out some cardboard or something and sketch it out with dims.
4  Forums / Classifieds / SOLD!! FS Rogue Panda Framebag, Tallboy 3 Large, $50 on: September 09, 2021, 07:33:19 AM
This is a custom-made frame bag for a size large SC tallboy 3. The bag was made by Rogue panda. It's used but in good shape. I'd keep it but it's specific to a tallboy which I sold.

$50

There is some chatter and ride options discussed here:

2020 happened and I never got to do any of these suggestions....so no advice there. But maybe helpful nonetheless.
6  Forums / Classifieds / WANTED: Drop Bar 29er Frame(set) on: November 29, 2020, 09:40:48 AM
I'm looking for a frame set to build up a drop bar 29er. Something like a Fargo, Cutthroat, etc. I'm just over 6', 32" inseam and positive ape index - probably need a large in most brands/bikes.

What's ya selling?

Edit: needs to be boost.

Hey evdog, thanks for the reply! I'd be down to see the track if it's easy, otherwise NBD since I still have Erin's 8-ball and trans routes.

Yep Lost Sierra looks rugged! That's very appealing. I do have dropper-seatbag compatibility on a fairly light trail bike, so I think it'd be a good fit. Either way, based on ride reports from the area I'll need to assume I'm trading cool technical riding for mileage.

April/May ride did not happen due to a rough few months. After reorienting myself, I'm looking to late summer early fall, pandemic and childcare permitting.

I've narrowed to these areas:
- Kernville, So. Sierra
- Tahoe to Mammoth, cmac route
- Lost Sierra

I have GPS routes for the first two, but not the third.

Anybody have good info, tracks, etc about long rides in Lost Sierra, Grouse Ridge, D-Ville, Graegle, etc?

Seems like what I'm looking for - remote, rough, lots of single track.

Yes there is a Valais on there. I suppose you could make something fairly easily but I didn't for that part
10  Forums / DIY / Make Your Own Gear (MYOG) / Re: seat bag? on: May 01, 2020, 04:49:55 PM
Yep I made a similar one. Seems to work fairly well. I used a narrower, longer stuff sack to make more clearance for the rear tire. All in I think it was ~$45 in materials and weight IIRC was ~110g, excluding the Valais. With all lightweight gear I'm sure it's not forever-proof but seems durable enough to survive me throwing the bike through manzanita and chamise. I can't feel it flopping at all while riding, but haven't watched myself ride so can't know exactly how much it might sway.

Either way I say it's an affordable and light option that should be moderately durable.

Hey evdog thanks for all that!

I'll look into North Rim a bit, I'm not familiar with the area. Is that where Kaibab monster Ross route is?

I thought about TDLP but the full tour is more than I can do in 3 days, and the tour route I've done already.

I've been seriously looking at the So Sierra area and had earmarked Erin's Kennedy to Nelson route. Would the area on the plateau ever be open before late May?

I thought about Bass/Shaver also, but have already adventured some there and yep not too much singletrack, though the singletrack that is there is stellar.

Stagecoach is an interesting one. I wouldn't be able to do the whole thing but could shorten it a bit maybe. What time of year does this area come into season?
12  Forums / Routes / Re: Options for Three Day Bikepack in April/May on: January 12, 2020, 01:33:51 PM
Yep I have the ramble and others like Queen's ransom on my list. I was a bit worried it would be too hot there that time of year. For reference, 80deg would be hot for me.

Good call on kaibab! I forget about that one, I'll check it out.

Anybody have good info for areas/routes that would be in good shape in April/May 2020? I'm shooting for ~180-240 miles, elevation and technicality dependant, three days. Preferably on the US west coast (I'm in Monterey. CA and want to minimize travel).

Options I was looking at that are appropriate duration but seemingly wrong season:
- Dixie 200
- Coconino

Other things I've been looking into are AZT variants, Southern Sierra.

What suggestions do you all have?

Edit to add: I favor remoteness and single track.

Thanks evdog I appreciate it.

I guess that about what I suspected. I hadn't thought about the downed tree issue. I bet that would be enough of a pain to support a later ride date. I'll probably look towards another ride since my window is more like April/May.

When does this route usually become rideable in the year? Seems like the race was late summer, but can it be ridden earlier like late Spring or early summer?

Hi Alex it was good to ride with you last year on the first day.   I think you may have had the fastest tour time last year, but you were ghost riding so I was not sure?

The tour route would be doable during the fall.  There would probably be a trickle of water in Santa Barbara Canyon and Chokecherry and Bluff would be flowing.

The full route would be extremely hard to do in the fall this year, especially with the Selby spigots and Miranda Pine spring both broken this year.  You would need to set up a water cache.

Hey Erin. Yep was good to meet and ride with you too!

Nope can't claim the fastest tour last year....I think first of the group but was a couple hours shy of the ITT guy. Either way, Michael was a good chunk faster than any of those!

Thanks for the info on water. I am considering a go at proper if life works out. Definitely not opposed to water cache. Would stashing at either Selby or Miranda make the most sense (I haven't checked the maps yet so pardon me if ignorant question)?

Nice work out there guys! Looks like y'all had fun!

I had a question for the veterans of this ride - is the fall a viable ride time? Seems to me water would be the concern.....are water spots flowing that time of year?
19  Forums / Ultra Racing / Re: Tour de Los Padres 2018 on: April 16, 2018, 05:11:46 PM
Well that was a super fun ride! Got to complete my first overnight ride and meet some nice folks.

Best part = toss up b/w 1) descent down Mt Pinos through the wet snow, 2) finish on the beach.

Worst part = toss up b/w 1) riding up Angostura in the heat, 2) re-entering society after a wonderful respite.

Obviously the best parts way outweighed the worst parts by a long shot!

What a fun route through some beautifully rugged and desolate country. Thanks Erin for setting it up and making a great route.

So I'm in for the tour route making the group start. Not planning on the spot/trackleaders thing, but planning to stop by the breakfast place and see everyone at start time.

Anything else I need to know that isn't on the website and this thread? What's the scoop on trail conditions should it rain near the start?
