my first down quilt. argon shell, 8oz of 850+ down, internal noseeum baffles. about 1.5" loft. packs down to 5" x 10". this was pretty straight forward but little time consuming project since i have one hand in sling still Smiley.

have not tested it yet other than pitching it couple of time in my back yard. i have had bike injury and my hand has been in sling for couple of weeks. it will fit 2 people. i bought carbon pole from quest that i am planing to use, its quite skinny so will see how it goes. i do not have weight, will get it after its complete, there are still some details missing. the cost was not too bad ~$75

play with your tensions. currently i am making quilt from argon 67 and my upper tension is set to 0.
not sure what fabric you are using, argon 67 is very lightweight and anything but 0 didint work on my machine.

there isnt any step by step tuturial that i know of.  i just read myog threads, studied designs from different bag makers and then went ahead with mine. this was one of the first seatbags i made, i have made some progress since design and skill wise. it just takes little practice.

it takes a little practice, to get the corners and curves right. side panel stiffeners go in last after everything is sewn together.

i am also wandering, for 30 deg quilt, should i do sewn through and not bother with baffles?
11  Forums / DIY / Make Your Own Gear (MYOG) / Re: 30 deg quilt questions on: September 18, 2015, 08:37:17 AM
ok, so mesh baffle ht without seam allowance should be same as loft ht?
12  Forums / DIY / Make Your Own Gear (MYOG) / 30 deg quilt questions on: September 18, 2015, 07:00:48 AM
now that i made all my bags and mid i am ready to proceed with quilt. i am going for 30 deg 2" loft. the thing i am not sure is how to handle the baffles. i will use no see um mesh. do i make the strips 2" tall when sewn to match loft or should they be tad narrower? 1.75" or so? also any good advice on filling with down part?
thanks

sailrite does both. my singer does both too. i only use zigzag for bar tacks, and would much rather prefer dedicated bar tack machine as its much quicker.

nick, any idea what the difference is between 1181 and 1541? i am pretty sure both will handle the sewing i do. is 1541 just heavier duty? where did you get yours? did you get table too?
16  Forums / DIY / Make Your Own Gear (MYOG) / Re: industrial sewing machine on: April 14, 2015, 09:52:44 AM
i do have my  old singer that does zigzag, i only use it for bar tacks, bar tack machine would be preferred but its another fairly big investment.

cool, i have been looking on local craigslist but cant find anything under 1k. i would not mind older machine. these walking foot machines dont do zigzag right?
18  Forums / DIY / Make Your Own Gear (MYOG) / industrial sewing machine on: April 10, 2015, 07:10:27 AM
i have been sewing for past 2 years, got hooked really fast and with all the sewing i do i am thinking of getting better machine.
currently have singer model 237, which is pretty good machine, metal guts, does zigzag too, but it has its years and is not perfect. i have been looking
into some walking foor machines. i have  had my eye on  juki 1541 for a while, but its expensive, there is also this 1181 walking foot model, cheaper not sure what the real difference is reading through the specs. anyways, just wandering if anyone here uses industrial machine and the thoughts. i have been also looking at purchasing used.
19  Forums / DIY / Make Your Own Gear (MYOG) / Re: no fray fabric on: April 06, 2015, 11:35:19 AM
thanks, that should work for what i need. so no edge finisheing necessary? also have you used 10oz or 18oz. just wandering how thick 18oz is as it looks like there is better color selection
