The next big event in the ultra world is TransUtah.

A brand spanking new race is always a little bit exciting, since so much is unknown.  No one knows how to plan for it, and how to race it.  There aren't previous racer reports to dig through and glean knowledge.

In the future the race will run from St. George to Moab, but this year only the first 300 miles are up for grabs.  Just leaves more mystery for next year...

Race day is coming right up (this Friday).

Latest from NWS:

A COLDER AND MORE ENERGETIC PACIFIC STORM SYSTEM WILL AFFECT UTAH

AND SURROUNDING STATES THIS WEEKEND. MUCH COLDER TEMPERATURES ARE

EXPECTED BY SUNDAY. WIDESPREAD PRECIPITATION COULD DEVELOP ACROSS

THE SOUTHERN HALF OF THE STATE THIS WEEKEND...WITH LESSER AREAL

COVERAGE FOR THE NORTHERN SECTION OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING.

SNOW LEVELS WILL LOWER SIGNIFICANTLY BEGINNING SATURDAY...WITH

ACCUMULATING SNOWS LIKELY AT THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS SATURDAY NIGHT

THROUGH SUNDAY.

 Shocked Shocked

I'll be sitting this year's event out.  But I'll be watching the radar for sure...

I've wondered if those mini-gaiters I made this summer might come in handy again...

The latest forecast (below) is splintering this year's Trans Utah event.

Marshal Bird is already on course.  Dave Harris and Dave Nice are starting a day early (tomorrow morning), and others are considering postponing or canceling.

I imagine there's plenty of clay and other nasty surfaces on the TU route, making forward progress with that kind of moisture virtually impossible.

So it goes in the land of ultra racing.  I'll be staying tuned to see how this one plays out.  I'm hoping to get Lynda W to post some updates on the race here in this forum.

----------------

A POTENT PACIFIC SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO IMPACT THE REGION THIS

WEEKEND. WIDESPREAD PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED AS THE SYSTEM MOVES

ACROSS THE REGION THROUGHOUT THE WEEKEND. THE ASSOCIATED COLD

FRONT IS FORECAST TO MOVE ACROSS NORTHERN UTAH LATE

SATURDAY...REACHING SOUTHERN UTAH BY SUNDAY MORNING. SNOW LEVELS

WILL FALL QUICKLY BEHIND THE COLD FRONT TO NEAR 7000 FEET. SNOW

LEVELS ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE TO FALL THROUGHOUT THE DAY

SUNDAY...REACHING NEAR 6500 FEET BY SUNDAY AFTERNOON ACROSS

NORTHERN AND CENTRAL UTAH. THIS STRONG SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO

BRING THE FIRST SNOW STORM TO THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF

NORTHERN...CENTRAL AND EVEN PARTS OF SOUTHERN UTAH SUNDAY.

PRECIPITATION IS FORECAST TO SLOWLY COME TO AN END LATE SUNDAY

INTO MONDAY.
