So I'm headed out for the race and I'm wondering how the SPOT situation works. I've got my own, but it's not in track me mode. Will I be able to use that or will I need to do something else? Also I know it pretty low key, and I like that, but will there be some sort of meeting to get this kind of stuff worked out? Are we still on track for a GPX file in the coming weeks since I have no idea where I'm going...... thumbsup

Thanks a bunch,
Sean

If you have a SPOT already you can use that -- tracking mode is not required, but without it you will only get a point every time you push the "OK" button, so you will often show as much further behind than you actually are.

We will have SPOTs available for racers -- details on this will be coming soon.

I know for a fact that Stefan has been crunching hard on the new GPX file.  I provided my data and I imagine he will have it available soon.

Thanks for the reply Scott. It sounds like if I subscribe to the "Track Me" feature I can use mine. Would you need the EIN number to place it on the tracking website? Would it be easier on everyone involved if I just used one of the provided ones?
Thanks.

How does that work when we use our own SPOT with the tracking mode on?  Will we send Stefan our tracking link or will we need to set up a seperate Share Page on our account for the tracking to be shown on the leaderboard?

I've been using mine every weekend for my wife to track me on training rides and I have noticed over the last couple of months that instead of showing a signal every 10 minutes it has been closer to once an hour due to the heavy tree cover on the majority of the trail between Indian Creek Trailhead and Wellington Lake Detour.

You'll just have to send either me or Stefan your share page link.  No need for a separate share page -- just one that shows your track message on it will work.

Yeah, on the CTR it is sometimes 45 min - 1 hour between points with the deep canyons and tree cover.

Sean -- we are looking at asking for a suggested donation (something small like $25) for use of our SPOTs (as a way of recouping some of our cost in setting up the trackers and maintaining it through the race).  So it'll probably be better for you if you use the one you've got.

Hi Scott,

I've got my own Spot for the CTR. But I just sent $10.00 by clicking the "Donate" button on trackleaders.com. It's a great service, and worth a few bucks.

I also sent $100.00 to the Colorado Trail Foundation for making the trail possible in the first place.

So, my "entry fee" is all paid up for the CTR. Feels good to support those who are making the event possible.

Cheers,
Toby

Thanks for the support guys.  We have been struggling a bit to get the tracking stuff off the ground, and everything helps.

I'm really looking forward to the CTR, either SPOT spectating or racing...

Is there a sign up for the SPOT's?  Should I try to get mine early to make sure it works or just get it at the start.  Probably just going to be driving up from Salida the morning of but I would pay shipping to get it here early if its a good idea.

Thanks!

Emily and I would also like to use a spot, happily making a contribution. (I may have access to Chris P.'s spot, but will still happily make a donation)
