Does Trackleaders have to be updated with this new file?

I'm racing nobo-leaving from Velorution on the 10th- A quick question for the front rangers....if I was to chill/camp and recover for a few days in/around Denver after my race, where would you recommend? I've got work in Denver about a week later and my sweetie will be there for some downtown hotel time on the 20th...however, if all goes well, I'm imagining a few days with no real cares/concerns or expectations. Love to hear some thoughts on camping/chillin/etc...

CTR 2014 saw its first ITT starter a couple days ago... Mitch Fedak... but it looks like he turned towards Bailey after section 3 and no more tracker updates after that....

Anybody know if he is continuing on course?

So much for my planned Aug 2 ITT. I have lots of reasons, but you don't need to hear them. I am just not ready for it and that is probably the only reason that really matters.

That being said - how are the San Juan's in September? Maybe I will try a ride from Marshall Pass to Durango in the first week of Sept. Too late?

Good luck to everyone this year

It somewhat depends on the year, but I think that September would likely be an awesome time to be out there. A little cooler at night, of course. But I love Colorado in September. Crisp sunny days, late-summer/early fall colors. Not much in life surpasses the vibe of eating lunch in the middle of an aspen grove in September. Bring some extra warm stuff, and go!

Michael,
If you want to camp near the finish of the CT [Waterton], check out Chatfield State Park, just 3-4 miles away. We're staging at Chatfield the night before the start. For a place to camp closer to the center of Denver, check out Cherry Creek Reservoir. When we'd go up to visit our daughter at Denver University, we would camp at Cherry Creek. With the tuition strain on the budget, Cherry Creek was our only affordable hotel option...

Still planning to head out next Thursday. I may stay at Chatfield the night before as well. I assume good tent camping? Is there an area where CTR'ers are pitching?

Joe,
I've camped at Chatfield two times, but I've never seen it in the daylight. We came in late and out early. Think we'll beat sundown this trip. Sat night, the eve of the CTR, we're staying in Site-153, Loop-C. Look for our big and white Ford Powerstroke van with NM plates.
And... If you're looking for something to keep you out of trouble on Saturday morning, come over to Leadville and catch the start of the MTB Leadville 100 [6:30 I believe]. I did it a few years ago, Lance's first year. Think I'll enjoy watching the start more than riding it.

I heard from Matt that Mitch Fedak bailed and is ok. Not sure of the exact reason.

Probably a good thing to discuss here. Day 1 can be brutal if you let it get to you. Dont cook yourself the first 42 miles. And if you do take a nice break or nap at Wellington Lake by the water pump.

Where is that water pump, Mark? I think i tried to find it last year and just went for a stream.

The Wellington Lake water pump is near the lake in the parking lot for the campground. Its right across from the building where you pay for a camp spot. Apparently the building used to sell candy bars and stuff. But they had no license and got caught.

Mitch has ridden the whole CT before, if I'm remembering correctly - he rode the first half on his fatbike, got sick of the bounce session, then came home here to Durango and got his full-sus, then went back and finished it out.  He knows the trail.  But he did just move to Denver (our loss, their gain), so who knows how much time he's had to ride.  Moving sucks, especially when it's from mountain town to big city...

I am doing an ITT starting on Aug. 9th.  I would like to sign up my spot on the trackleaders.com so that friends and family can track me during the ride.  As an ITT’er do I need to use exact same detours as the racers?

If you are racing the CTR, then you need to follow the exact course. If you are touring, then you can do whatever you like!

If you just want people to be able to follow along and you don't like the generic base maps (with no GPX/track) that your SPOT share page provides, trackleaders does have a standing CT trail tracker. But if you are indeed racing, then yes of course you need to follow the same route as everyone else.

In the spirit of the upcoming CTR (and since I can't make it due to an ailing father-in-law) here is a little pre-race vid. This was supposed to be my final tune-up ride before the race, but now I'm just happy to have gotten out there.

Woodland,
Re: Your VT125 Video
Are you going to revenge the CTR and ride the Vapor Trail 125? If the CTR doesn't suck all the energy out of me, doing the Vapor Trail has bounced around in my head. Would be a very long day. I think it even starts at 10PM this year...
Good luck with your ailing in-law.

I know a lot of CTR vets have done the Vapor Trail 125 (if anyone is prepared to ride all night long, it's CTR vets!). I did my own shortened spin-off of the route (Chalk Creek pass is not part of it)...and it was tough.

For anyone who has done it, the climb back up Poncha Creek road after the Starvation Creek trail must be so painful...race organizers probably get cursed at that point!
