With an important event the next morning, I'll have to be very careful and only try one... or two... But there are probably at least two dozen very interesting high-gravity pours I'd like to try. Dang... A great place close to Chatfield State park is the new High Plains Taphouse. http://www.bardenver.netThey have great beers and a few small menu items. It is within biking distance of the state park (about 2 to 3 miles). Lots of room for large groups of people. It's also right next to the grocery store if you need supplies.

It's probably a good time to remind everyone to donate what they can to the CTF. I know last year, the CTF expressed great gratitude towards the CTR because of all the support they received from CTR riders. We want to keep up that generosity in supporting the CTF since they support us and what we do.
Ditto for Trackleaders...folks there are likely putting in some long days... |

Anyone have experience with the SPOT Trace? Trackleaders now has the Trace as a renting option, but I'm thinking about just buying one myself.

yep, it rocks. does exactly what you want it to do for an event - TRACK. Batteries last for an amzing amount of time and it is a light compact unit with good attaching. But of course back it up... |

I've been processing a new CTR track file that will include all of the latest Colorado Trail Foundation's 2014 waypoints. It should be done in a day or two.

Toby, Thanks in advance! FYI, I'm using your current CTR track this weekend for the Colorado Trail Classic. Edit: Rode the CTC this past weekend, Segments 25-28, with your new 2014 track loaded. All seems good. Thanks for providing the GPX.New CTR track file coming!

NEW 2014 CTR TRACKSI finally finished updating my CTR track for 2014. Here are the major differences: - More waypoints. Thanks to Jerry Brown and the Colorado Trail Foundation, there are now about 200 more waypoints in the file.
- Fewer track points. I knocked the tracks down to 9000 points. This will leave room on your GPS to load additional tracks, in case there's a last-minute fire re-route or something. The track resolution is still excellent.

I have someone dropping a car for me in Durango. Any suggestions where the best place to leave a car for 1 to 2 weeks? At the trailhead? In town parked in a businesses lot? In town parked on a city street? Any help/suggestions is appreciated?

City streets could work....make sure your choosing a spot on 4th and above. (Main/second/3rd no bueno) Maybe some small talk and flip the home owners a sixer? or look for houses that are college vintage....there's some opportunities on the south side..... Not sure if you could pull it off, but a call to the Durango Rec center may work...they have a longer term parking abutting Main and the baseball fields-the local trails group and boys and girls club use if for their vehicles- Be nice and tell them what you're doing and they may be chill with it....it's only 3 blocks up from 25th/Main-good, well lit locale |

regarding the GPS track on Tarryall detour: I rode the Tarryall detour a few weeks ago with some other CTR riders, and we noticed a possible deviation of the GPS track from the Colorado Trail Guidebook and Databook 5th edition. This section is on Rock Creek Hill Rd after leaving Tarryall road and heading back to the Long Gulch singletrack. I'm going to paste a short bit of my email with my friend Rick who describes this deviation better than I can... The "Rd. 129 detour", as I call it and you refer to which deviates from the Rock Creek Hills Rd. approximately 2 miles from the Tarryall Rd. puzzles me also. It is approximately .6 miles longer than following the Rock Creek Hills Rd., but could take up to 30 minutes longer because of the poor conditions. You're right, the latest CT Databook doesn't mention the deviation and the official CTR website, at http://www.climbingdreams.net/ctr/#results, says to "follow the bike detour through Tarryall as described in the official guidebook". Toby's latest GPX, however, does include the deviation. Has anyone else noticed this? Unless we've gotten confused somehow, I think we are all supposed to stay on Rock Creek Hills Road (Park County 39) the whole time from Tarryall Road to Lost Park Road. |

I rode Waterton to Kenosha this past Saturday and I noticed that as well,and I was pretty smoked by then.I stayed left there not even relizing it until I uploaded my ride.Holy Hurt that is a long way up to Kenosha.

There is good water from a hand pump well at Goose Creek Campground. |
