Serge, what a gentleman. It was a priviledge to follow your race and hear your calls. It will inspire me to ride with the head held up enjoying the views and all those out there experiencing life to the fullest. I have a beer held high and giving you a hip-hip-hurray!

I need to stop listening to the post-finish call ins. Each one leaves me wanting to return for another go just a little bit more.

Congrats to Dave G, who is just about 20 miles out! Looking forward to hearing about your ride at the CTR start next month.

I've got other fishies to fry next year but I think I'm hooked.  2014?

I'd swap rear tires in Steamboat instead of Salida, I'd go completely nocturnal in NM, I'd eat more than one slice of pie in Pie Town, and I'd bring an iPod.  I can only sing 99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall so many times before even I start to lose it.

Big up to Chip for an amazing ride. Finished last night at 1145 and wa received by 3 drunk canucks and one drunk Cjell Money. Sprayed some bubbles on him and wisked him away to more celebrations. Chip entertined us with tales of wolves and mountain lion encounters. His run in the a straight line wind storm sounded most epic. Be listening for Steven Huddle's updates as he get around Ferndale. Chip descibed the route as unpassable and many stretches of down tree area exist in areas gated off to cars which would indicate a slow slow cleanup. I personally know how gnarly Chip is so when he says it's bad, it's probably really bad. Chip caught me in Pie Town and kept me nervous the entire ride that old bastard. Epic Stuff. He and I are just enjoying banff a little with the fellas from Soul Bikeshop. Loving live in Canada. Thanks for letting me in. The Chastity belt is however chafing me a bit...leaving back for CO in the morn.

Congrats to all the idiots that chose to race southbound. Some awesome efforts. Keep an eye on Blake from Truckee on his ITT...strong rider for sure.

So glad my mother found this forum and my blog.  420 hooray.

Sounds like a bit of chatter about my gear choices...maybe address them a bit.
No Helmet - wasn't expecting the TD to be as tech is some sections as it was. Never toured with a helmet. Sketchy choice - maybe. If I do it again it will probably be with a cowboy hat.
POC t-shirt- Ha, Helmet company on the shirt. The tattoo in Silver City was a bit untimely as is required the wearing of a shirt for sun protection but i chopped off the bits i didn't need.
Bike - 2 speed BlackSheep snow bike ran 29er. Those wizards at Blacksheep help me build a snow bike with a 68 mil BB. If I ran the Tour again I would do it fat for sure (I am a pussy)Love the shit out of my 2 speed. Allowed me to climb and move when i needed to. Oiled the chain ~ 5 times and rotated the tires once...that was it! No bike maintainence. The BS ti fork and frame takes some finess but is unmatched in compliance over shitty rocky grav and washboard. SO NASTY.

Thanks for everyone who watches here. Super fun to check in and see all the chatter. Awesome to check in on all other racers getting radical.

Blog update coming.

BOOYA!

Booya my ass. See you next month. Be well, Pilgrim.

Thanks for the analysis, Amy.  Something I find telling is the time spent moving vs time stopped.  Ollie shows 11 days moving, 4 days stopped.  Ezster: 14 days rolling, 5 days stopped.  The early finishers all/most seemed to have high ratios of time moving to time stopped.  If you look farther back, you'll see ratios like 1:2 or nearly 1:3.  I think in ultra events Time On Bike is as important as avg mph when rolling.  You can be a stud/studette but get nowhere if you're not on the bike.

I just did a tally of the status of all 95 people who were started in the Banff SoBo Grand Depart.  I may be off in a few of the details, it's a little hard to keep track of it all, but I think it's pretty close.

Amy - I also love and reposted your analysis as I cheer on TT - 57 years old.

Tom and Nathan have been riding amicably since Canada, separating at times for delays getting bikes fixed etc.  Today/tonight they are having a Ollie/Craig dilemma.  Tom's Bottom Bracket is having some problems.  He is riding out of Grants with Nathan after several attempts to snug it up without good bottom bracket tools.  Shimano XT.  He toyed with my texted suggestion of driving the bike to Fat Tire Bikes in ABQ which is open Noon to 5 tomorrow.  Opted to "go nocturnal" apparently. I also suggested some locktite from WalMart - Craig's difficulty and MTBCast was a helpful warmup for this.  Tom's wife is heading out from NorCal early Sunday.  Tom recently predicted a Tuesday morning finish.  I calculated 6:36 AM Wednesday......  But the mechanical development will make it a nail biter.

Stay tuned - any further suggestions??

Congrats to everybody who's finished and to all still out there: Keep it up, you're all doing great!!

Calls overnight and this morning: Stephen Huddle called in from Sparwood. He’s fueling up and despite some delays is doing good. Tracy Burge called in from East of Teton. She’s doing well though a little nervous. Stephen Huddle called in from Sparwood again. He’s feeling a little ill so he’s going to stay there for the night. Maybe he needed a....TV Party Tonight! Dan Haskin called in from Kremling. Not as far as he wanted to go but he had a rough ride and was run off the road. And “One Speed” Michael Cleveland called in from Salida. He recaps a great day of riding despite being woken up by a sprinkler!

Hooray for DM!  We are so proud of you Dave! Thank you for being such a good role model for our family - encouraging us to set our goals high and not stop until we reach them!!

We look forward to hearing about your adventure and seeing skinny little Uncle Dave, rather than your blue dot!!

Congratulations to you DM and ALL of the TD riders for conquering this incredible challenge!!  - love, Lisa, Brian, Tyler, Cade and Ainslie

Watching the TDF and find my self more interested in the blue dots then the riders in the TDF. Not quite the same when there are pre staged food/water drops and a spare bike or 5 waiting if something happens to the one your sitting on. The real Athletes are on the Tour Divide currently. Where you have to push yourself Mentally and Physically. You have to fix your own ride, lick your own wounds when you fall. Find your own food. And on occasion fight a bear off.

Serge, Hey it was great to meet you on the trail and in the room in Eureka. I wish I could have caught up to you to talk more. Eszter had a great time picking up your stuff on the trail and we all thought you were a very tough rider! If you are in Gunnison/Crested Butte look us up--jryter@western.edu, livethinline.blogspot.com and we'll show you some cool trails. I am also deeply indebted to the people of Fernie--it is a great place. Au revoir!

Did my AW- finish yesterday together with Michael from NY and I want to thank you all for great support during the last 3 weeks, esp after my frame desaster on Marshall pass. Will never ever forget this 22day+ part of my life. Thanks also to the 'organizers' doing a great job and all the people between Banff and AW.
