Jesse Jakomait  May 22, 2011

I’ve wanted to give the 230km Kokpelli trail another shot since I first tried it back in 2007 and in 2011 it was time.  Through some gained wisdom, experience and more stubbornness I knocked an hour off my ride and set a new trail record of 12hr18min.

Congratulations, nice write up for the rest of us to enjoy.

Sorry, I couldn't help but laugh at your fuelling misadventures Cheesy (In the knowledge that you clearly survived them obviously)

Helluva ride, Jesse! I raced the KT the weekend before and was happy to knock 2.5 hours off my previous time, but that still puts me an hour shy of your time. Looking at your splits, you impressively seemed to continue to push a solid pace right to the end instead of slowing to a crawl on the singletrack like so many people do.

Wow.  That is screaming fast.

I updated the "ultra records" page with the new standard.  Well done.

Awesome!!

I can speak to how much it blows to ride through that clay/mud. Last year Eszter and I had to carry our bikes over or around it more than a few times.

Hell of a ride - congrats!!

Hi Jesse, I think that those tracks that you followed might have been mine. I rode straight through, starting at 11:15 AM on the 21st, and finishing at 11:11 AM on the 22nd (yes, that's 4 minutes shy of 24 hours, 1/2 of your breakneck speed!). A couple of buddies left at the same time that I did, and and they bivied in Dewey--but they had to bail out before Loma.

Absolutely amazing, Jesse. I don't know how the hell you guys ride that fast. While I think that I can knock 3-5 hours off next next year, I can't imagine doing it in 12 and change. Inspiring!

Super!   headbang

I am still hoping to get out there in the next 3 weeks....weather permitting.  Was in Moab this weekend for some riding, but the logistics and body were not KT ready right now.

Congratulations on a new record Jesse!  That is some amazing riding.  I think I was just crawling out of my sleeping bag in Dewey when you passed by on Sunday morning. I thought I saw a bolt of lightning but no clouds were in the sky - must have been you. Wish I could have seen you pass by me to witness your great achievement but just glad to say I was on the Kokopelli Trail the same day a record was broken!
