Is there any interest in having the Kaibab 200 this year on June 18th? http://rockyroad5050.wordpress.com/4-kaibab-150/

That photo creates no interest for me whatsoever.  I'm out.

Can't believe I haven't ridden the 125, or Rainbow.  If there's a date I'll think about it.

I am interested, though the date doesn't work for me. Probably will look at the route in July if conditions are right.

Mmm sounds tasty.  I'm interested but have a date with a chainsaw that weekend...

Fred - the 200 includes all of the AZT north of the GC.  It also includes some remote roads/jeep trails in the park with one view of Crystal canyon (awesome place).  It is altogether a different ride than the 125, and as LW & I found out a bit much to chew off in 24 hours Wink

Here's the visual of the differences.

There is plenty of water on route but there are some long dry sections.  Good planning is key, best not to wing it, especially if temps are high.

Dave (or even Chad),

On the 125 route, what are the (reliable?) waters sources you guys know?  Only things I know of, and in order of appearance on the route are:  Parissawampitts Spring (old, volunteer guy at the visitor center said he though so, though a bit off-course), Deer Lake, Crystal Spring (possibly running) and Dog Lake.  A couple other sink holes and tanks on the last 30 miles that may have water, though I'd rather not have to use them!

Also, on the Paunsagunt route, any good water sources before getting all the way to the valley leading to the Tropic reservoir?

Since Idaho looks to still be snowed in, I'm planning on 3 weeks thru Flagstaff, Gallup, Santa Fe, Albequerque, Los Alamos, Angel Fire, Taos, Durango and Cortez starting about 24th.

But, since I won't be going North, and since I just feel the need to get out of town before the big trip, I'm looking to take a week starting the 10th and do (my modified) Paunsagunt Enduro over 2 days and the Kaibab 125 over 3.

The 125 is pretty damn dry.  Most years folks resupply at the store on the park paved road, or deer lake.  My best ride on the 125 I used deer lake with chem tabs...tasted sweet and green slimy things added calories I'm sure Wink

The 200 has several great water sources:  Aspen, Kanabiwitz, and a bit tank on House Rock road to name a few.

The Paunsaugunt has fantastic water in the water canyons.  Locations here:  http://2-epic.com/maps/311map.html?dixie311-2010.kml&index=0

Sounds like an awesome trip!

I rode the 125 twice......started with roughly 200oz of water and refilled(+ a bottle of soda) at the store on the paved road.

I really enjoy the 125 route. I'd like to do it again soon-ish.

What is the status of the Kaibab Monstercross?  Trying to plan some rides out.

Sorry for resurrecting an ancient thread, but I'm planning on bikepacking the Kaibab Monstercross 125 route this weekend(7/14/12 & 7/15/12) (regardless of weather) and I was wondering if the gpx file provided in the route description is still a rideable route? Also, any pointers or tips would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I'm not aware of anything that would have made any part of the route inaccessible - my best guess is it is all good to go.  Fire is the big culprit to change things on the ground.  My last trip up there was last summer.

There are roads all over the Kaibab, so if you did run into issues it would just be a case of connecting some dots.

FYI parts of the 200 route will be scorching hot next weekend.  I know you said 125...only the last part of that route will be hot.

Have fun and let us know if you find any road/trail blocks (or perhaps if the AZT segment closed by the willow fire is now open?).
