2015 TD

I've been lurking around the bikepacking.net forums since watching Ride the Divide and becoming interested - nay, obsessed - with the Tour Divide and bikepacking in general. Perhaps I've missed it, but is there a firm 2015 start date yet? I live in Calgary, and while I would never be able to attempt something even approximating this trek, I would like to see everyone off at the Banff trailhead for the 2015 Grand Depart.

Any timings appreciated. Good luck to everyone with their training and preparations!

What tires are folks planning on this year? I know the nano raptors have a great reputation but I'm thinking about something on a wider rim. Some of the Geax tires look suitable. Thoughts?

I'm running Specialized Fast Trak Control 2.2 tubeless on Velocity Blunt 35 rims. Great ride, fast & quiet.

I've ran two pairs of Panaracer Driver Pro's on my Fargo this summer, including a week on the Montana section of the GDMBR with a week old pair set up tubeless. They rolled really well, but the rubber is soft and the tread showed noticeable wear even after a week on the route, plus a trip up/down Going To The Sun Road in Glacier. I'm still hunting for "The Tire" like many people.

Tires - Saguaros rolled and gripped really well for me, great across a wide range of conditions but more easily cut than a Maxxis UST. I thought when in the UK that I could fix cuts pretty effectively, they're fairly common where I ride. But gone 1am and 14 days in, or in the heat of NM, you really don't want UST faff. As many will already know ... I'd use my usual heavier Maxxis UST or EXO next time, min 2.3s - generally I do at home or away. I just fell for 'lighter' as well as the great tread and easy seating of the Saguaros, against all my usual ideas about tyre weight meaning little overall. A week after returning, I slashed the rear Saguaro open an inch on a local trail. 1 pair lasted the entire ride though, so that's a plus point for them. The Ikon 2.35 EXO looks really promising, if it's the same casing as the Ardent 2.4s I usually use it's pretty bombproof.
