Pushing back a trip to the Sierras due to weather so I'll probably be starting a few days late.

Glad you guys are checking out some of the route. Don't forget the lower sections of the course as well.

Here is a video of a bit of the return leg to Foresthill, it includes the HAB up to Devils Thumb, the worst on the route, luckily it's less than two miles.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39hMk-p_CG8

I'm not sure if Scott just hasn't updated it or not, but it looks like no one has signed up to the Trackleaders page. If no one wants to be tracked I'm not going to waste Scott's time in setting up the page, it is a business after all and we should respect that. If you are interested in being tracked, lets get signed up so I can have Scott complete the process.

I'm not going to be racing. I'm only 8 weeks out from knee surgery and racing on it is just really not a great idea right now. I really wanted to give it a go, but I really need to be smart about this, not my best trait. I'll be at the start and  hope to ride with you for the first few hours. Hopefully I can SPOT stalk you guys and get some pictures out on course.

The weather here has been warm, but not too hot. Let's hope that trend continues.
Sean, I'm planing an ITT some where around the 24th or 25th. I would like to be on trackleaders but haven't signed up yet. I'll sign up tonight. Hope see some others on the tracker.

Michael,
I'm planing to ride an ITT on the 24th. Do you have any interest in starting then? It would be nice to line up with someone else at Raley's. I can be somewhat flexible with my start day. LMK

Yeah, that would most likely work. I'm really slow though so I probably won't be able to keep up for very long.

Sorry I haven't signed up yet on Trackleaders, I haven't had my Spot with me and don't know the serial number. I will get signed up tomorrow.

Finally had a chance to look at the route in close detail.....am I correct in seeing no resupply between Foresthill and Tahoma (107 hard miles) and between Strawberry and Foresthill (120 very hard miles). Did I hear rumors of some cabin bar in the middle of nowhere serving food?

That's the way it looks to me. I've been working on this water / resupply spreadsheet, don't quite have all the mileages input yet but hope to in the next day or two.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DhvXeHEqxx9Afbn-okelxsvYLJ6Edznwxm5ZGlvuV9I/edit?usp=sharing

There certainly are a lot of water filtering spots! Any idea how many of them will be dried up?

Yes, those are pretty close to correct. You can find the bar at Uncle Toms Cabin via Google.

On the TRT there is no water between Mt Rose and Spooner Lake. There is no water between Spooner Lake and Kingsbury Grade. There is no water between Kingsbury Grade and Star Lake. There is no water between Star Lake and Big Meadow.

A lot of the smaller streams are dry, but there are major rivers and lakes spread out pretty evenly. I wouldn't push the water situation this year, get it if you have the opportunity.

It's been hot here this week but the temps look good for the weekend. Scattered thunderstorms are predicted for this weekend.

Sean, you say no water between Mt. Rose and Spooner - can't we get water at Marlette Lake? Also, does Spooner have any food - I see there is a bike shop there. Thanks

I've stopped at spooner lake bike shop. They have basic snacks and some drinks  as I recall. You should confirm that they're still in business.

Also, Uncle Toms cabin does not have much for food. They have plenty of cold Budweiser though!

Yes you could stop at Marlette if you want to haul it up the hill.....There is also a hand pump at the backcountry campground coming off of Marlette Peak.

Didn't they move down the hill to the old Ponderosa Ranch property? I never go up to the parking lot.

Yes. Max moved to ponderosa, but someone else had a shop at spooner last summer.

Alright I'm signed up to Trackleaders. Looking forward to Friday morning! 7 people signed up on the spreadsheet, with Blake and Michael doing an ITT later this month, so looks like we'll be 5 strong this weekend.

Want to confirm that this is the correct version of the route: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/5344411

Also, I've never bikepacked so if anyone has a gear list I'd find it helpful. I'm not sure if there are non-obvious items that one wouldn't bring on either a long bike ride or a backpacking trip. For instance, what clothing / shelter systems are typically carried in case of rain?

Keep in mind I'm not racing. Orthos says I've overused the crap out of my surgically repaired knee and I need to dial it back. It's either ride my bike or work and I've become accustomed to a nice shelter and some food in the refer. Call me soft..... Wink

Cool to see Greg signed up. He was our only finisher last year and he'll get to see some new stuff this year.

I hope to ride with you guys back up to my house here in Foresthill on Friday morning. Either way I'll be there to see you guys off.

Any suggestions for where to leave a vehicle for the race? Besides at the base of Mt. Rose Wink

Last year we parked up along Ferguson Rd, which is the road McDonalds is on. We parked up towards the top near the PCWA offices. Meet at Raleys, which is just down the street with your bike.
